Arthur Masuaku has apologised on the club’s official website after he was sent off for spitting in yesterday’s 2-0 loss at Wigan.
Masuaku told WHUFC.com “I want to say sorry for my actions on Saturday. I let down my team-mates, the manager, coaches, board and the fans. I am very sad because the manager and coaches have put a lot of faith in me but I will work very hard to try and win that back. It was in the heat of the moment and out of character for me. I know it was totally unacceptable and I will learn from the first red card of my career.”
Masuaku will receive the standard two-week wage fine for receiving a red card which will cost him around £50,000. Graeme Howlett from KUMB.com has suggested the club should donate that fine to Isla Caton fund for the 3-year-old West Ham fan with a rare form of cancer. The fund to send the young Hammers fan to the USA for treatment reached £139,000 just £61,000 short of their £200,000 target.
Graeme told his Twitter followers “A real opportunity for West Ham to right a couple of wrongs here. Fine Masuaku two weeks wages and send it to Isla’s fight”
Be nice if something good could come out of this. However apologies are easy when all the damage has been done.
True, Rangey, but we would all be complaining if he hadn’t made an apology. You never know, it might be genuine remorse.
Yeah at this stage all he can do is apologise- he can’t turn the clock back. It is only in the weeks to come that he can do something to put it right & unfortunately he won’t play now until near the end of the season. But most of us have done things we are ashamed of-usually not in front of millions of people. What do they say ‘To err is human to forgive is divine’. Translates as give the guy a break…
Well, there you have it. Still young but as he says, it was his first red. Also honourable to not even say why he did this. Unlike the dirty teller who ran to complain to the ref to have him sent off.
Let’s see what the final sanction is. It would really be object of reflection to see a 6 game ban hit him when the guy who took Obiang out for over a month did not even get a yellow, or when violent play is only sanctioned with three games.
I have seen far worse on the pitch as unacceptable as it was. He has acknowledged he let the team, himself and the fans down now I am interested in how he uses that to come back firing after his suspension. The reaction for me has been way over the top when you compare it with some of the horror tackles witnessed over the years, so enough!
Correct. See the number 3 player from Cardiff (a Warnock team though) tackling Sane from behind today. Why wasn’t that a direct red. Totally vicious, intentional, and with full knowledge of the damage it could have caused. THAT should be banned from the pitches.
Good idea to use Masuaku’s fine to find a young child’s fight with cancer.
Spitting is not pleasant, but when compared to acts of violence on the pitch that seem to go unpunished as pointed put above, spitting is no big deal.
My. Moyes refers to Arthur’s spitting as despicable. Can’t say I condone spitting.
Wouldn’t it be less disingenuous for Mr Moyes to focus, apologetically, on the truly despicable performance we put in against a League 1 side who outplayed us, and could have won by a larger margin. How many weeks pay should Mr Moyes and his coaching team be fined for overseeing the debacle at Wigan?
We all make mistakes, it used to be commonplace all this spitting stuff you don’t have to go back too far but no longer acceptable and rightly so, hopefully his previous good conduct will work in his favour and he can get a suitable smack on the wrist and learn his lesson. I am willing to forgive and forget it, he has been one of our better players this season the Dave’s need to find a big wodge of money from somewhere either for loans or permanent deals we need to fill the gaps this window.
