Arthur may have sealed his own fate

|

It wouldn’t surprise me in the least to see Aaron Cresswell return for the match against Spurs after the international break.

The manager appears to take a very harsh view indeed of critical mistakes and lapses of concentration when  Carlos Sanchez was thrown into outer darkness after the Wolves game and Declan Rice was cast aside for a while after Liverpool.

Sanchez’s criminal error against Wolves and a perceived moment of midfield hesitancy by the teenager were apparently reasons for the boss’ actions.

And if he remains true to form then Arthur Masuaku’s horrible moment for the Brighton goal will probably cost him big time.

He simply stood watching – making no move whatsoever – as Glenn Murray appeared late to stab home what turned out to be the winner.

Somebody on the CandH FB forum mentioned a couple of weeks ago that we really have to stop thinking of Masuaku as a left back because he’s really is a poor defender.

Last night he possibly cost us a point and whatever his other virtues that’s not good enough.

Being blunt, I’m not sure that either he or Cresswell are good enough for the team the manager wants to put together and believe this will be a matter for the January window.

In the meantime Arthur may well have sealed his fate for a while as far as Senor Pellegrini is concerned.

    About time….

  • kcockayne says:

Masuaku cannot defend, he does not know how to & he is incapable of doing it. If Pellegrini has woken up to that fact, then we are the better for it. Mind you, what exactly did Arthur do in last night’s game ? I scored him a 3.

Cressie has been rightly patient in waiting for his chance, and it has arrived.
Masuaku was also partly to blame dithering for Man U to score the previous week ( was he supposed to be on the post for that corner? I still don’t know ). He’s had a good run but has returned to his old ways defensively, and even showed it in his frustration as he rounded on a Brighton player during the game. He is easy to wind up.
It’s time for cresswell to come in.

  • Good Old Daze says:

Masuaku’s never been a reliable left back but he’s a decent back-up left winger. Cresswell’s always been a better defender and we would be less leaky with him playing alongside the solid cental partnership of Diop and Balbuena.

Too long to wait till the next match – I hate these international breaks …. COYI

We need a left back that can defend an’d masu is not the right player there and if you watch all games or go to them then certainly cresswell isn’t the answer either he cost us more points on his defending last two seasons if you check it out. Used to be good going forward even that is poor now. Maybe the injury was the problem but for me we need a top defender that can get forward too and we don’t have one left side. Sell cress and others and get a few more players in Jan and were on our way.

Ok Masuaku should’ve covered the cross better but what about the midfield sloppily giving the ball away In the build up to their goal ..

  • scotty71 says:

Listen to yourselves?short memories haven’t we,this the same player you want in who had that same comical swipe at traore and couldn’t even catch his leg, cresswell is useless,if noble wouldn’t have passed that ball to a weak as you like yarmo last night none of that would’ve happened,it happened let’s move on don’t call for terrible players from a knee jerk reaction to the game.arthur will be better, you were all willing to gloss over the fact that cresswell was crap for the last season so give him a break.

Masuaku made no attempt to prevent Murray from scoring, yet he was shaking his head and waving his arms as though it was up to some other player to do so.
I would like to know if anyone has a reason for his actions

    • aol says:

Maybe he thought someone should’ve stopped the cross. Fact is he left Murray with a tap-in. For me, it started with a bad pass from Noble in CM, Yarmo didn’t do enough to prevent the turnover and we were caught on the break. Again. On another day we would have got something from the game. Can’t understand why Propper’s kick at Arnie in the box wasn’t a penalty. Probably because he bounced off and injured himself. Creswell will probably start next game, but it does seem to be a problem area for us.

  • West Ham Fan No 32 says:

I feel sorry for Diop he thinks Masuaku is going to drift like a defender and cover the space behind like any defender would, Masuaku looks blank faced as he watches two Brighton player move into the gaping chasm between left back and left central defender.

    • West Ham Fan No 32 says:

Pellegrini has to accept responsibility for that because that gap has been exploited time and again this season.

  • Hammerkip says:

Yeah Murray scores goals I don’t know how because in my opinion he is shocking but the way he just walked in to the box to put the goal away whi!e Arthur was just stood there is truly awful for a professional..then to top it of he was having tantrum like it was someone else’s fault ..only at West ham ..we thought thing’s were about to change after our little run but now the player’s decided to have a break from desire and work rate so it’s back to square one ..I suppose it’s asking to much for the players to put in a full 90 minutes shift every game wich is totally unacceptable….God will it ever change..one season they might put the full effort in all season like the top teams ..wishful thinking..

  • Hammers in the blood 1 says:

Let’s be honest Hugh the whole team lacked intensity in the first hal . You go to any premier league game and think your going to win without intensity, closing down & team spirit. It’s not good enough to turn up for half a match they need to buck their ideas up and change their mindset that was not good enough we got what we deserved nothing. As for Masuaku that was lazy he can’t defend and I’m not sure Cresswell will improve us but hope he makes me wrong . We have to learn from that game, onwards & upwards let’s be positive . COYI ⚒

  • Clive says:

Some things we are learning are that Yarmo and Masuaku can’t defend for toffee. Rice and noble spend a lot of time trying to cover for their mistakes. I swear Masuaku has an invisible line half way down the centre of the goal and he’s not going to cross over it for any one because he doesn’t see it as his responsibility. Diop clearly signals to him to take over the marking of Murray because Diop is marking another man, but Masuaku seems to just stand there as if saying not my responsibility mate it’s not on my side of the pitch. Poor attitude.
