At last, we can give January window a pass

|

We saw this evening why West Ham’s January transfer window will be the quietest in a lot of years.

Ok, Fulham were hardly the most challenging opponents we have met this season but given the only fit recognised striker available was Chicharito this was a top result.

When it’s remembered that Carroll is nowhere near up to speed, Perez was unavailable along with Arnie, and that numerous other players  are in the casualty room, we mixed and matched to bring away yet another important three points.

Twenty four of them after 17 games with Watford, Southampton and Bunley on the agenda suggests that we will be a long way from the team that battled its way from the relegation for most of last season.

We sit two points behind Man United in sixth place and there really is usually no need for teams in that sort of position to panic their way into the transfer market.

At long last the Hammers have got it right by bringing in a class manager and investing £100k in players during the summer.

More of the same next summer and goodness knows where we will be this time next year but I think we can leave the transfer window next month to the likes of Fulham, Southampton, Burnley, Cardiff and Huddersfield etc.

And it all feels very good indeed.

I’m not so sure, I think we can freshen the squad up with some clever whealing and dealing. If Reid is back, I would consider selling Ogbanna for 6-7m (though I do like him). I would consider signing a left back and selling Cresswell for 4-5m. I would consider selling Obiang for 5-6m and buying a centre midfielder and I would consider selling both Carroll and Perez for 3-4m each and bringing in another offensive player. I reckon with 20- 25m we could certainly bring in one or two very good young players to further improve us and give them a few months to settle into the premiership.

I disagree with the above. It’s taken this long to start to get all the players to gel. And you can see that the squard, is really together even when the players. Are not playing. We need to keep them together. And maybe as some loans, I’f any good ones become available.

It’s obvious Sully and Gold don’t want to spend in the window because like we’ve heard several times, they over stretched themselves by 40 odd million in the last window. Luckily, I don’t think we need to spend too much in January. So nobody’s going to mind too much if we don’t this time around. I dont think we need to sell either, not with so many injuries in the current squad. And not if we need to build a bigger squad for Europen competition next year, because that has to be the aim from now on. In any case, i would prefer we spent nothing in January if it meant we could spend bigger money on a few world class players in the summer.

If Ruben LOftus-CHeek is available or Drinkwater on loan I think we will get them and maybe a left back but for sure there shouldn’t be a need to panic buy

We saw what wholesale changes did to the results at the beginning of the season. Now we must progress slowly with only two or three changes to the first team next summer. I’d like to see a good left back come in during January.

I am still trying to work out how we could get rid of Wilshere. We are paying him 100K a week if reports are true and we let Quina go for 1m (10 weeks of Wilshere wages). Quina is n a different level to Wilshere some terrible business decisions for me. Quina and Rice in midfield would have been incredible. I ld like 3 players in, a left back, centre mid and a natural 10. Young proven players.

bringing in too many in january could upset the team but if the right player came up go for one or two LoftusCheek loan with a view to buy would be my shout and hopefully see holland and silva get a chance

No activity this winter window is perfectly understandable . No point in unsettling a squad that worked very hard to gel . Confidence in our new found style and all round commitment could get damaged in this pivotal season at the LS . There are areas for improvement of course but buying just for sake of it can or could do more harm than good ….. But anyhow we are far from panic stations . Wholesale changes again would put us back to square one. Just a look at the injury list explains why we shouldn’t be overly concerned .
What a massive relief to able to talk in these terms as opposed to buy buy buy .
When you consider all that is going on around us , then Pelligrini has to be the sighning of the season .
