Austin £30m package too rich for Irons blood

|

QPR-Queens-Park-Rangers-Harry-Redknapp-Charlie-Austin-Hoops-QPR-FC-548116Any lingering hopes the Hammers may be tempted into a deal for Queens Park Rangers striker Charlie Austin appear to be fading and dying!

For according to morning reports which coincide with those given to ClaretandHugh the 26 year old is looking for wages of around £85k a week – much the same as Andy Carroll’s – on top of the £15 million transfer fee.

Last season’s 18-goal striker has been on the wish list of several Premier Legue outfts although interest from the Hammers has always been over stated.

The Hammers are more interested in giving Carroll the chance to show he can remain injury free and are likely to move for a forward on loan in the meantime.

The £30 million  cost of an Austin deal over a four year package – with Carroll still on the books until 2019 on much the same – looks far too rich for the Irons management’s blood.

Good. Move on to another better striker. Austin is a limited footballer that only gets noticed because he’s a good finisher. If it was a bargain deal we’d be caught in the rush.

We definitely need another striker though…

    • Hammerman6 says:

Oh really ..we’ll we don’t need one of those do we !

      • eriko says:

He’s gotta prove that he can do it one more season at least before he deserves wages like that.

        Remembering Marlon Harewood

  • TysonM says:

Haha, isnt that the idea of a striker,to be noticed because he is a good finisher 😉

  • whambam says:

Yeah don’t want to get caught in the Carroll/Ashton scenario (eggs in one basket) again rather have all the other players we have signed this year and get a loan striker in

  • kevin says:

A fit Carroll is better than Austin anyway . Forget Austin ( seems rather greedy ) and look elsewhere . If he was that good he would have been snapped up by a richer club by now . Still 37 days to go . Plenty of time to find a Striker that fits the bill .

  • whambam says:

I know some will think we have no ambition but we are moving forward quicker than I thought we would and if Slav does get a loan deal sorted I reckon he will give the bloke games unlike SA did with Nene etc,

  • whambam says:

We have to sort that midfield out to compete with teams in the top half, last year it put too much pressure on the back 4 and not enough service to the strikers, that’s when the defence lose patience and start lumping it up field, I think Slav’s going to change that with the new midfielders we have bought in and he is experimenting during the warm up games

  • jaybs says:

Is it really more of a matter that we look like idiots what we paid for Carroll fee wise, when we knew after the season loan there were serious doubts about his fitness, then we even agreed to pay him the stupid wage we did, blame Fat Man for that! but how the owners fell for it is beyond belief, I wonder if it was Mr Gold who nodded it through the way he seems to stand by Carroll on his Twitter Bugle Notices! If we don’t come up with the goals, don’t blame Slav, he can’t put them in the net for us!

  • Si Hammer says:

Lmao, that has got to be one of the weirdest post i have ever seen.Move on from Austin because he only gets noticed because he is a good finisher ,haha, thats like saying move on from a defender because he defends well 😀

  • essexclarets says:

The positivity didn’t last long did it?? Transfer window sitll open for over a month & we will sign a striker or two before the end.. come 8th August Sakho will be fit, Valencia will be fit, forget about AC he will never be fit for long. We will have a midfield full of attacking players & we haven’t started a game with our best 11 as yet. Pre season results are nothing to worry about. Man City just got stuffed 4-1 doesn’t mean they are going to struggle.

  • GW says:

Another English striker who scores goals granted that is suddenly worth an alleged £85k a week. If these reports are true it just proves that English players have started to believe their own hype.. I’ll give Austin credit he scored a number of goals in a poor side last year but it’s one season in the premiership, Michu did it,Jelavic did it don’t see many clamouring for us to sign them.. 85k is ludicrous for one years experience in the premiership

  • Si Hammer says:

Blimey Essex, nothing on here with regards to negativity can top wetpants at the moment. They are falling apart at the seems in desperation & fear, lol 😉

  • Stingray Stewart says:

I have met Charlie a couple of times. There is no way he believes in his own hype. One of the most level headed lads about. He worked the tools on the building sites,he knows where he has come from.He aint no primadonna. If someone is willing to pay him 85k a week im sure he will take it,but the lad wouldnt be pushing for it.Dont believe this £85k bs anyway tbh 😉

    • GW says:

That’s good to hear Sting and I admire him for getting his head down and doing well. But English players transfer fees are staggering, I don’t question his goal scoring record at all but Hernadez at 9 million after experience at Manure and Madrid with creative players behind would float my boat more than Austin.. Just my opinion

  • essexclarets says:

Fukc me i think most are off to B&Q to buy some more rope.. i’m getting a head ache banging my head against a brick wall.. ;-D

  • Stingray Stewart says:

Lol,i aint been to wetpants for a while, they send me into depression with their dark moods 😀

  • boys of 66 says:

You aint missing anything Sting. They are just proving exactly why they are called Wetpants.com with their normal over reaction to everything like the world is about to explode 😉

  • Dainon says:

ill be surprised if he ends up getting 85k a week, seems more like 55k a week would be right for him until he proves it was more than a one off season.

A good striker is hard to come by though, and the thing is we do need another quality goalscorer as we keep finding out season after season, If the owners are “more interested in giving Carroll the chance to show he can remain injury free” I think they will be disappointed once again.

One more top draw goal getter would be the cherry on top of the cake for us & I really hope they manage to find one

  • barlucjak says:

get rid of Nolan and thats £50 K

    • oldgit says:

That wouldn’t save £50k a week. Firstly, no-one else will pay that to him so we’ll subsidise most of any deal so the wage would still be on our books and besides…. who would sign him? I reckon there is a very good chance that he will sit tight for his final £2.6m annual salary

  • JMan43 says:

For me this would be a mistake. I I have seen this guy and met him and as Sting has already said, couldn’t meet a guy who is more level headed and thinks he is so lucky to be playing professional football. He is a natural finisher and is a far better player than Carroll who I do not rate at all. Tell me the last time Carroll scored 18 goals in a season, was when Newcastle were in The Championship. I would pay the sodding money and have someone who playing in front of Payet and alongside Sakho will score a lot of goals. Let’s remember guys what wins games, goals and scoring more than the opposition, we haven’t got that sorted yet and this fascination with bringing in a loaner just doesn’t sit well with me. The TV money will more than cover what we are spending, so think if they really want to make a statement and get people sitting up and taking notice just before moving to the OS, now is the time to do it. Time to stretch for a bigger prize, I believe it could be just around the corner if we play our cards right!!

  • boys of 66 says:

Totally agree with you Jman.I think i said on here once before i saw one of the football shows on Sky.The Sunday Supplement around about late May i think. The guys on there were saying that they were interested to see whether we put a marker down this summer & to show some intent to let other clubs no we mean business in these coming years. They mentioned that other chairmen in the prem were also interested to see what we did this summer.Well at the moment they aint going to be trembling in their boots, lol 😉

  • canchaz says:

I have commented more than once about everything Slav does and says leaves a distinct impression that He is far more focused on a strong midfield, with several attacking players in it and that, at least so far, an expensive gamble on yet another striker is concerned, is not at the top of his list.
If a real loan bargain surfaces, that would be different but I would be really surprised to see us getting serious about an expensive striker, especially if he is already 30 plus because the Carroll deal has made the owners very skittish about going down that road again, more so as DS was opposed to that deal in the first place.

    • JMan43 says:

Understand Canchaz but Austin is not a gamble believe you me. I have seen him since Swindon days and he just keeps getting better. Carroll will never play 20-30 games for us and Austin would be a great buy, but hey I am not holding the purse strings. I think it would be a big mistake to concentrate in the main on a strong midfield at the expense of a reliable goal scorer in this league!!

  • justwhu says:

I think if we offered QPR Kevin Nolan and Matt Jarvis in a swap deal for Austin + £5-7 million then both clubs would get a good deal.

If we could sign Charlie Austin and Kevin Mirallas then this will be just perfect for the new season.
