Benny’s out of Africa as Ivorians crush Algeria

|

Hammer Said Benrahma is on his way out of Africa and back to the east end after Algeria were thumped by the Ivory Coast and shoved out of the Afcon Tournament.

The reigning champions were left bottom of their group after an embarrassing 90 minutes in which Manchester City’s Mahrez missed a spot kick with his team three down.

It’s been a miserable tournament for Hammer Benny who was subbed at half time following an opening game which saw him miss a glorious chance of giving the Algerians a late win.

Now, he will return to the London Stadium but what his African experience will have done to his confidence can only be guessed at given he was subbed at half time this afternoon.

The Ivory Coast – with former Hammer Seb Haller up front scoring an offside goal- were far too strong for the reigning champions who were seriously second best throughout.

The Ivorians took the lead after 22 minutes through Franck Kessi, added a second through SangareĀ  on 39 with Arsenal’s Pepe making it three early in the second half.

Mahrez missed his spot kick on the hour when after sending the keeper the wrong way the ball rebounded off the upright.

Algeria got some hope when Bendebke grabbed a 73rd minute consolation but that’s all it turned out to be.
