BFS calls for a football circuit breaker

|

Sam Allardyce says football needs a break after the Premier League returned its highest number of positive coronavirus results in a single round of tests this season.

On Tuesday, the latest round of Premier League testing found 18 people had the virus.

New coronavirus cases at Fulham mean their Premier League match at Tottenham on Wednesday is in doubt.

“I’m very concerned for myself and football in general,” said Allardyce.

The BBC reporting his comments say Sheffield United have confirmed they had “numerous positive tests” in the latest round of testing.

And Manchester City’s Premier League match at Everton was postponed four hours before kick-off because of a coronavirus outbreak.

Allardyce said a “circuit break” was the “right thing” to do to cope with the outbreak.

“Everyone’s safety is more important than anything else,” he added after West Brom’s 5-0 home defeat by Leeds on Tuesday.

“When I listen to the news that the variant virus transmits quicker than the original virus, we can only do the right thing, which is have a circuit break.

“I am 66 years old and the last thing I want to do is catch Covid.”

ClaretandHugh says: No sooner does BFS return to the game than he is calling for a circuit break to halt it. A circuit break could easily become permanent given the present situation with infections rising faster and faster and you can bet the Premier League will be opposing any plans the government may have in that direction. In Sam’s case it would be easier to sympathise had he not decided to return to the game at a time when the problem was become bigger and bigger and opening himself up to the obvious dangers. He claims the last thing he needs at his age is to catch covid. Indeed Sam – that’s why so many of us around that age stay largely indoors rather than run around the country meeting and mixing, increasing the chance of getting it by perhaps ten fold. The issue is going to come under  much discussion over the next few days. I certainly wouldn’t have a bet on the outcome

Big Obese Sam is a prime candidate to die of COVID given his age and size. No wonder he wears a face mask. Maybe he’s realised he’s never going to keep West Brom up in a million years and is looking for a way out.

  • Good Ole Daze says:

He’s not been back in football for long, but I’d like a circuit breaker from BFS.

  • Graham Watts says:

It would be a start if he put his mask over his nose!
