West Ham’s transfer progress had seemed, as we wrote yesterday, to be limited to midfield and attacking options as the club look to strengthen ahead of the season start on 18th.
News had apparently dried up regarding a replacement for Axel Disasi who finished his loan and left in June, leaving behind a huge hole in West Ham’s defence.

Max Kilman may find himself in the front line alongside Mavropanos
In preseason, the Irons had fielded Mavropanos, Golambeckis and Max Kilman, with zero incomings to strengthen their centre back options. However a huge update this afternoon might have big repercussions for the Irons’ defence – and with it, their whole promotion push next season.
Sources (westhamzone.com) are claiming that West Ham have agreed terms with defender Axel Disasi to bring him back to London Stadium for the Championship – but the player wants a week to consider his options before committing, Obviously still in the hope that a top – tier suitor arrives.
However it seems a major breakthrough for Nuno’s side to have the tantalising prospect of Disasi and Mavropanos reuniting for the Championship season ahead: The deal with Disasi would apparently have a buyout clause should the Irons fail to make it back into the Premier League.
West Ham were reported as agreeing a fee of around £25 million with Chelsea for Disasi’s permanent transfer. It was always the player who was holding out for a better option so potentially this could be a huge breakthrough. However it is worth sounding a note of caution that the origin of the information is YouTuber Si Phillips: Known but not a mainstream source.
It would certainly explain the Hammers’ lack of progress in the transfer market for an alternative centre back but of course, even if true it is a high – risk strategy which could back fire if Disasi does get an alternative move before committing.
We must not be left with Kilman as a first choice . Disaster waiting to happen and his presence destroys the confidence of all around him .
West need 2 CBs anyway so wait for Axel sure but sign another anyway.
Just saw a report stating Crystal Palace will be bidding in the next 48 hours. With both PL and Europe to offer, I fear he hasn’t much of a decision to make. Shame but given he is 29 next birthday, maybe we can find a younger version with the £25m?
Good authority Martin. This is not happening Side track mate
All the players we are linked to have £20m+ fees. Where is the money coming from?
Roma are looking for a deal at £17m (rumoured).
Who has last say Chelsea or player.
I got just a little bit excited until I read the the source was from a youtuber! Oh well.
