Big six are no more!

|

It could be argued that there is no longer a ‘Big six’ but only a top-six or even a best six in the Premier League.

Traditionally Arsenal and Spurs have been included in the so-called ‘Big six’ but the term is now outdated.

It could be argued that Leciester City has just as much right to say they are in the Big Six, at least they have won something in recent years.

If we look at the top six for last season it included Leciester City and West Ham who could be regarded as the best six based on performances as well.

Spurs finished 7th and Arsenal 8th in a disappointing season for their fans.

There is no doubt that the Big four still exist with Manchester City, United, Chelsea and Liverpool but the fight for the next two places will be wide open this season.

Arsenal remains rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table with no from their first three games.

Spurs are top for now after three wins after three but they have plenty of time to muck things up which they tend to do.

West Ham can’t be considered a Big Six club yet but if we constantly finish in the top six we could join Leciester City soon replacing our two London rivals.

It might take two or three more seasons but maybe David Moyes is the man to get us there!

Tbh I’ve always been puzzled why Spurs have ever been considered part of the so called PL elite. OK they had a season under Pochettino where they reached the Champions League final but, seriously, what else have they achieved ? Arsenal, despite their current problems, can at least claim to have been a force in the PL in the days of Arsene Wenger and have actually won the thing on occasions. But the last time Spurs won the league people were still watching black and white TVs and no one had yet heard of The Beatles.

Even Manchester City, for all their recent PL dominance, can’t really, at least imo, be classed as “elite” until they’ve won the Champions League which is the pinnacle in club football. Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea have all done it so they can legitimately claim to be “big”. But the rest ? For me, the jury’s out.

Still dont see Chelsea as a BIG club as such -even though theyve won the so called champions league. Agree about spurs and yes Arsenal did win a few things. In the present day in my mind theres a BIG ONE/ Man city. Only because of the money angle.
