Transfer news: Bilic nails the Irons striker dilemma

|

Deadline DayEarlier today Slaven Bilic spoke of the difficulties of signing strikers .

It was a timely intervention in the debate – or perhaps more accurately – a chorus of disapproval that has been doing the rounds on social media.

Among the many songs being sung are two which are so familiar they hardly need putting into words: ” The f…ing board wants to get its so and so finger out ”  and “give him what he f…ing wants.”

If only life was so simple and thankfully the manager has a more realistic attitude and better understanding of the way things work.

He’s been quoted today as saying it’s not easy, that it’s frustrating even for clubs that have no limit whatsoever budget-wise – ESPECIALLY with front men.

If you don’t believe him take a look at Manchester United who are being baulked at every turn in their striker search – just one major reason why we can’t prise Javier Hernandez away.

Beyond that there are personal terms to settle, last minute overnight changes of mind as was the case with Raul Jimenez, clubs holding out on fees, agents’ commissions and late bids from rival clubs.

Then there re hidden issues of which the public never become aware such as injury and fitness problems – it can be one dilemma on top of another.

Accusing a board of not getting their fingers out is just silly and leaves the impression that for reasons which are never made clear, the board don’t want to do business.

Slav has a talent for putting his finger on key issues at the right time. Yes it’s annoying and frustrating amd social media is like the old public bars where we can all let loose with a volley of abuse if we want.

Sadly it won’t make one iota of difference ( although it may make us feel better). The best way forward I politely suggest is to exercise a little patience.

After all there’s still over two weeks to go until the window closes and we all know the real business is done at the end anyway.

Oh yes, you MAY NOW GO TO BED!

I agree to an extent until you read that there has been no offers for Austin. 60 goals in 3 seasons 18 in the Premiership last season is not to be sniffed at and he would fit well with us and score loads, so why haven’t we at least had a discussion?

  • canchaz says:

Do you honestly believe that we have still to do our real business. To do that we’d have to produce a bigger coup than Payet.
This statement by Slav. Is only one more repeat of his thinking all the way through, that focussing the bulk of you efforts, and, more importantly the bulk of your transfer budget on a striker is not, in his eyes the way to go. He prefers to spread the budget on acquiring several quality midfielders. That way, if one comes down with an injury, he still has someone left to pick up the slack.
Commit the bulk of your budget on a big money striker, even if you can find one and he gets injured , you have nothing left. We, of all clubs should know that.

Hmm,Mystic Man Canchaz has been inside Slavens head again.Same comment, different day.

  • bubs says:

Did you read the same article I read canchaz,
He is showing what a good manager he is not pulling the board line,
He is correct Man U are not going to sell Hernandez until they have Pedro,
Spuds are not going to sell us or loan us dippty
The European teams think we are super rich and ask stupid prices,
The agents are messing up the Market and are just really gready,
The 2 Daves are not mugs and will only do business if the price is right it’s just a worry for fans that we have no back up to Sakho

  • Actually Canchaz he says its very hard to get a striker – nothing more nothing less

  • TysonM says:

Canchaz sees things others dont,he is the only person who has known exactly what Slav has been doing from day one as he ‘points out’ regularly, lol 😉

  • bubs says:

1 line Hugh and it took me 8 lines but well said,
Never mind Mr Miller will be on later once he has checked your spelling and information on Google to tell you how wrong you are,

  • Roman says:

It seems to me to be a lottery for a striker at the moment. All the earlier links seem to have vanished being replaced by new links which the club cares to dismiss or ignore. Is Sow still available? Surely there are suitable English strikers available? Is it the money standing in the way of a discussion on Austin?I hope they don’t resign Coley?I might take a Bex and have a good lie down.

  • Twinkle Toes Nolan says:

Lol,Canchaz is either the biggest wind-up ever or he actually believes he has a telepathic bond with Bilic, lol, funny,he seems to know everything about what Bilic is thinking before Slaven himself has thought it,lol

  • slaven a laugh says:

Slaven is correct but could the real reason it’s difficult to sign a striker at the moment have anything to do with the fact the season has already started?

  • Dainon says:

    Canchaz 😀 😀

  • GW says:

Wouldn’t mind us having a punt on Dwight Gayle at Palace instead of the mercenary Adebayor always looked a handful and plenty of pace….

  • Roman says:

GW, Gayle wouldn’t be a bad proposition. Is he available?

    • GW says:

Unfortunately I don’t live in Slavs head Roman unlike Canchez so have no idea if he would be interested in him… For 15 million Berahinio would be a great buy too be so good to **** of Levy and get him from under there noses… Canchez as your Slavs mind can you tell me if this is possible or are you oops Slav just looking at loans lol?

  • Roman says:

Just read Fulham have joined in the race for Gayle at 10million quid..5million less than Austin. Are we talking apples for apples though?

  • TysonM says:

Last i read BristolC had put in 6m for Gayle + add-ons could make it 8m.Nice to see these Championship sides can afford strikers at these prices, lol 😉
