Billy quits Sunderland manager job for West Ham

|

moyes22Sunderland caretaker manager Billy McKinlay has quit the North East club to join David Moyes at West Ham.

The Scot, who was handed the first-team reins alongside Robbie Stockdale after Simon Grayson’s departure, will link up with Moyes again as part of his backroom staff at the London Stadium.

McKinlay had joined Sunderland under Moyes as his chief scout, but has management experience with Fulham and Norweigan side Stabaek.
He also served as Moyes’ assistant coach during his spell at Real Sociedad.
His departure is another blow to Sunderland, who are still without a manager almost two weeks after Grayson was sacked.

A club statement said: “Sunderland AFC can confirm that Billy McKinlay has taken up a coaching role with West Ham United. The club would like to thank Billy for his efforts during his time on Wearside.”

In his playing days McKinlay was signed by Dundee United from Hamilton Thistle in 1986. He played in the 1988 Scottish Cup Final side at the age of 19 and went on to play over two hundred matches for Dundee.

Following Dundee United’s relegation in 1995, McKinlay was sold to Blackburn Rovers in 1995. After leaving Blackburn in 2000, McKinlay had brief spells with Bradford City, Preston North End and Clydebank. In 2002, he joined Leicester City,  In 2004, Fulham manager Chris Coleman signed McKinlay, primarily to assist the reserve squad.

Can’t we find someone who has won something as a player or coach instead of building a team of people who are losers ?

  • bowers says:

Please can somebody explain what the structure/roles of these 3 Assistant Managers will be?

Irvine #2 so far I have heard Stuart will be coming on as Defensive Coach & Fitness. Glad Pyshco is here out on the punk & motivate this squad!
Unfortunately they don’t have to much silver around them.
But you would have to say they are experienced & our last backroom staff seemed to lack that esp #2 Handball coach & fitness.
So I don’t think it can get worse. Unless. Moyes does do like said go back the Preston days where he made ppl cry needs a middle ground.

Getting tired of these checks because I sign in everyday … what’s up ??.
Any way .; . There is no reason why West Ham should explain Thier internal structure to anyone ., bowers . A club is a club just as a buisness is a business .
All you have to do is Support the Team and get behind Moyes and that’s all that matters .
And , bubbles ; nice to see you again with your comments ,, welcome back .
I would never consider Moyes to be a loser . 10 or 11 years at Everton is a good stint .
It’s not as if we have won anything of note . 1985 ring a bell ….? And the recent half-hearted
Attempts in the Europa League . It’s been nothing short of Embarrassing ( apart from 2006 )
How West Ham United have performed . Don’t know how many times you have seen West Ham win anything but , definitely less times than me . I have a very long memory after so. Many years as a fan . To call Moyes a loser even before he has begun is defeatism in the extreme . And you call yourself a Fan , ,!,
Bubbles ; I enjoy your comments and inputs but , you’re wrong on this occasion imo .
Keep the faith ,,, things can only get better from here on in . Let’s make the LS the most feared place to visit . ( just need to impress upon the Dave’s to Stay Schtum .)
We will not be relegated, because as Carroll has said ; we are too good . Ignore Merson . He is on god knows what wages to talk rubbish . He obviously didn’t study our history from those dark days . Glenn Roeader was Manager ffs , and then Trevor tried to save a sinking ship . Too late . Keep positive, Bubbles .. we will win through because we have to . Bilic had to go . We need some good Old Fashioned British grass roots Football instead of this experimental European stuff . Not or wasn’t happy with Alladyce but , happy with Bilic .
Not Happy with Moyes but , He hasn’t even started yet ….. makes no sense .
Hope we can have more positive things to say in the coming months regarding Moyes .
God knows we need it . Chin up Bubbles . Better times are on the way .

There is no need to be snotty Kevin I just wanted to know who is defence coach, etc out of the 3 of them☹️

  • Lazurus. rises like a salmon says:

Wtf are you talking about Kevin ! Greenwood built the team around Moore with the style he based his coaching on which was Hungarian when they thrashed us at Wembley ? Lol mate where do you think the break with pace come from , passing from the back , and flair players in the m/ f ,quickly taken freekicks and chucking the Hughes book of hoof in the bin ! the only thing he couldn’t do was sign the players he wanted for the defencive job to compliment the style , money available and all that goes with it , lyall had the same problem and harry didn’t know how to set up defensively , being a selling club made sure of that ! oops money again !!!
As for you’re diehard defence of Carroll’s bull💩 beggars belief , form and results don’t lie and shrek was stating the obvious so that don’t wash mate ! But Moyes needs a chance as do his backroom staff, time will tell on that one , 😉

  • norfolkhammer says:

well let’s give Moyes a chance nah I’d rather watch paint dry let’s see where we are on January 1st to see who departs the sinking ship first my money on Lanzini but I hope it’s Carroll for he’s lovely words about us leaving early wot does this prat of a Geordie know it ain’t as if the whole team have been setting the premier league alight with the football as it’s been dire we have trains to catch & homes to go to Mr Injury Prone.as for the backroom staff im glad Bilic”s lot got the boot ive seen more movement at Madame Tusdauds waxworks than them. over to you Mr Moyes to get the players to entertain us for Carroll’s sake or there be more people leaving early
