Boleyn Ground lights switched back on

|

ceremonymooreThe publicity around the possible West Ham Ladies versus a West Ham All Stars XI on 5th June has caused a lot of debate among supporters.

Some argue that the image of Bobby Moore turning off the lights should have been it and no more games should be played on the hallowed turf after last Tuesday.

In reality, West Ham have always hired out the pitch for between £5,000 and £10,000 for half a days for those with deep enough pockets and this season is no exception.

sadfanA number of events have already taken place and yesterday (Sunday 15th May) saw the Lycamobile Cup, a tournament in which a number of schools took part organised by the West Ham foundation.

This Wednesday 18th May sees the annual Football Aid tournament, where fans have paid hundreds of pounds for charity to play on the Boleyn Ground one last time. A limited number of spectator tickets are available for £5 each on their website.

HireoneThursday 19th May sees an event by former Hammers youth player, Bertie Brayley who has charged supporters £144 each to take part in a World Cup themed 6-a-side competition at the Boleyn Ground.

Saturday 21st May sees a private hire of the pitch by S14 Limited, the company which supplies the majority of the West Ham players with their cars. Jimmy Bullard, Chris Powell, Jimmy Walker and Tubes from Soccer AM are said to playing in that behind closed doors game.

Thursday 26th May sees an adults 11-a-side event hosted by Frank McAvennie, where fans have paid £210 each to take part in a game and get 90 minutes on the pitch.

Friday 27th May sees a charity game between Ex-West Ham players and Great Ormand Street Children’s Hospital charity. The Ex-West Ham team is managed by Tony Cottee and players have paid £450 for the privilege of playing 45 minutes or £900 for the full 90 minutes.

uptonparkSunday 29th May sees a five a side adults football competition with entry fees of £599 per team and a 7 a side children’s tournament for £96 per child hosted by George Parris.

Monday 30th May sees a historic match between The Royal Engineers against the reformed Upton Park FC. Admission is free of charge for anyone to attend.

A decision as yet to made on the West Ham Ladies match on Sunday 5th June but ClaretandHugh has been told there may be another private hire of the pitch on Monday 6th June – which we are told will be the last time the pitch is hired.

Sources close to the club have also told ClaretandHugh that are health and safety concerns if large numbers of spectators turn up for any of these events. A number important safety signs are missing and many seats have been ripped up and are in an unsafe condition with jagged plastic edges in the aftermath of the ‘final’ game last week!

Do we s till not want our West Ham ladies to play there when everyone else will?LET THEM PLAY.

  • Radai Lama says:

It really does make this big deal amongst some about the ladies not playing there a total load of bolloxs doesn’t it.

  • TRB says:

THE LAST MATCH HAS BEEN PLAYED……..LET’S LEAVE IT AT THAT. ANY FURTHER GAMES WILL TARNISH THE MEMORY FOREVER

  • mooro66uk says:

another game has already been played there for fu## sake. At least another 5 will be played there. Why are some people so fuc###g thick. It ain’t so hard to understand is it? so why not our own ladies?

  • Radai Lama says:

Tarnished forever, what a load of bolloxs, there is another game being played there anyway. If you can’t keep your memories from Tuesday without them being tarnished I feel sorry for you. Thanks for explaining in CAPITALS though,it mad it all more dramatic. You ain’t Bobby The Minger from Wetpants are you lol

The game with Manure was the last major West Ham United game played there with 35,000 filling the stadium. People renting the pitch doesn’t change that. All of the charity games will prob attract less than a few thousand spectators combined along with the Ladies team game. So yes it is a way for the club to make a few quid but it is also giving real fans the chance of playing there. Can’t understand what the fuss is about tbh. It is still our ground until the minute we hand the keys over so we might aswell get some use out of it.
every club in the land would have promoted the last game of the season at their ground but will still let private hire of the stadium.

Im telling ya Essex some of our fans do my swede in.They take themselves & West Ham so bloody seriously.Give them a few weeks & they will have totally forgot about it but for now they are the self proclaimed guardians of West Hams memory.D1ckheads 😉

Lol 😀 There are some people who are never happy unless they are moaning about something. Can you imagine if the club made the ladies game or a charity event a massive occasion and billed it as THE LAST EVER GAME AT THE BOLEYN GROUND. The same muppets would still have cried over it and b1tched about ruining the pitch.

      • Radai Lama says:

The age of the internet,we can have the joy of reading peoples theatrical moan ups just because the missus didn’t give them a shag lastnight & they have hump 😀

  • RickHammer says:

That means I must be in a permanent bad mood then Radai, lmao
