Boss makes window spending policy clear

|

Manager David Moyes might have been expected to sell more players in order to fund new arrivals in the summer window but he insists he never saw things that way.

There has been criticism in the past that the club has been too slow to sink resources into the transfer market but the manager was clear that was not the case – nor did he expect to to be this time around.

Speaking to reporters about the resources he was given by the board he said: “I knew the owners would always be supportive as far as funds go.

Let’s be fair we needed it, we didn’t spend any money in January so that probably helped add to the pot as well. We couldn’t have done it otherwise as we were already players short.

We had released three or four in the summer. It was either that or bring in a player who probably wouldn’t have kept us competitive from where we have been.”

Frustratingly though he saw the top six club have big windows which will make it harder to close the gap between them and the Irons.

Moyes responded: ” It just shows how things can change. Leicester haven’t done so much business. Everton have been huge spenders over the past and haven’t been able to spend quite as they have done in years gone by.

It does chop and change. Clubs want to have a go and West Ham have shown that. but they (the board ) are also making sure we are not putting ourselves in huge difficulty.

We wouldn’t haven’t been able to buy Jesus or Richarlison at those levels that other teams have been able to do.’
