Boss explains lack of transfer window action

|

Gary Medel was the only player in whom the Irons were interested

Manuel Pellegrini has given his take on the transfer window after us fans have made our views pretty clear on the various forums.

Maybe it’s because West Ham are so often involved in January wheeling and dealing that it’s a hard habit to break when nobody cones through the doors.

In reality – assuming of course you have faith in the manager – it’s a good sign in reality because as we suggested in a previous blog it demonstrates, despite the last couple of results, he has real faith in his squad.

Many have suggested that it was the lack of funds which was the inhibiting factor but in fact with everybody fit we have a pretty good squad anyway.

And with 31 points in the bag there’s little reason for panic although finishing in the coveted top seven may ba a distant dream right now.

We were always told there would be very little activity so it should have come as no surprise and the manager today chose to explain his and the club’s thinking behind the window.

At his  presser he said:“I was not disappointed by our January transfer window because the media is more interested in bringing players to West Ham than the Club itself!

We have a squad, we have some players with long-term injuries but we have other players. The only interest we had in changing players was if we sold one but if not, we have the squad and it must be ready to play the last 14 games of the season.

All the names and speculation about players we might be interested in came from the media. We didn’t have any interest in bringing new players here unless we sold players.

The only player we had interest in was Gary Medel, they told us it was free and we were interested because he can play in two or three positions. They told us he was free but then it turned out the player was not free.

So, I think that we have the squad and if with this one we will work with it until the end of the season. Then we will see in the summer what we need to do. The January window does not offer many solutions.

Not even a loan deal for someone who can hit the back of the net from a yard out…… ???

This is the type we needed in the midfield to up the tempo and effort of the other players around him. A little terrier bulldog blokey running around like a madman snapping at the oppositions heels.
