Bowen discussion holds no water

|

There are some on the forums who believe David Moyes is so spoiled for choice on the right side that Jarrod Bowen should be switched to the left wing.

Andriy Yarmolenko has had two run outs as a substitute  on the right and had a considerable impact. Good!

But the idea of switching Bowen into a position he has rarely seen in his life in order to accommodate the Ukranian is simply not on given his regular near man of the match performances and assists rate.

It’s clear from the decline and fall of Hull City, and the 23 year old’s performances since arriving at West Ham, that he is unquestionably our number one right sided player.

His 17 goals at Hull before we moved in – along with his non stop commitment – saw them in a very healthy position. Since his departure they are one spot outside the relegation places.

He achieved this from the RIGHT side – he is not left sided and to move him to the other side would frankly be sheer madness.

His presence in the squad is putting a lot of pressure on Yarmo and as a result he is responding big time – if anything we may be better off playing him through the middle as there are definite shades of Arnautovic to his game at the moment.

I have followed Jarrod’s career a bit and was delighted when he arrived at the London Stadium and wrote soon after his signing that he and Soucek were two very good reasons to believe we will remain a Premier League club.

But he’s a right winger – nothing else and this really isn’t the time – if there ever is one – to play top players out of position.

He was a great signing – let’s leave him to do what he’s shown he is  very good at!  Any discussion about him switching wings doesn’t hold water!

Yes I’ve been saying it for a while, we could play Yarmo up front, Ant on the left with Bowen on the right and they can all interchange well, this could be very fluid and give Ant a breather from playing up top, he is a very real threat coming from out wide

  • Saul says:

Antonio is getting used to being a striker and I think could play up front for the rest of his career. Why gamble with Yarmolenko up top when that’s not his position? I think this season shows we need to sell Anderson and replace him with a left-sided attacking midfielder…… and two fullbacks……. and a defender……. and a back-up striker!! But selling Anderson and the overrated Diop should provide the necessary funds for 3/4 of those

Totally agree Hugh , he is looking like an excellent signing , long may it last . I am gutted we didn’t beat Newcastle but things are looking better performance wise , long may that last too.⚒

  • DJHammer says:

Yarmo can play on the left, technically adept enough to get beyond full backs to cross into oncoming midfielder, or central striker.

Team’s seem to tire since the restart .. For that reason Yarmi is the perfect impact sub! Fresh and able to do what he does best when team’s are dropping off . Moyes has got this tactic spot on
