Breaking: Defender Transfer Deal is OFF

West Ham’s transfer move for Bayern Munich right-back Noussair Mazraoui is off. The breaking news was announced by Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, who has been leading the story from the beginning.

Earlier today, we reported that there were still some details pending in the negotiations after FC Bayern and West Ham had come to an agreement on the transfer fee.

C&H spoke to a top Hammers source yesterday who said there was still ‘work to do’ on the deal for the Moroccan defender, and so it has proved.

Speaking on his social media account, Plettenberg said: “Mazraoui deal with West Ham is OFF! No agreement on the agent’s side has been reached. Despite the agreement between the clubs (€15.5m + €4m) and on the player’s side, West Ham have now left the negotiations. Manchester United are now pushing to sign Mazraoui. Advanced talks.”

The whole debacle is becoming quite tiresome with failed deals for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Kyle Walker-Peters, and now Noussair Mazraoui. West Ham are clearly finding it incredibly difficult to negotiate terms in our quest for a new right-back following the departure of Ben Johnson.

Quite what Julen Lopetegui thinks about the latest development is anyone’s guess.

Some of these comments are hilarious. People saying they are DONE with the club because we didn’t sign a right back they know next to nothing about? Wow, genius’.

We have signed a Ā£40m defender, a Ā£25m Brazilian winger and a third choice goalkeeper with Premier League experience, in his prime. Wan Bissaka wants to go to Inter supposedly (who would choose us over them, the current Champions of Italy?) and this Moroccan defender Mazraoui is being courted by Man Utd, commercially one of the biggest clubs in the World, and naturally he’s going to choose them over us. What’s the problem here?

People need to get a grip. There isn’t a huge amount of money around. Yes, some clubs like Villa are doing a decent amount of business but they’re in the Champions League. We’re not even in the bloody Conference League. A bit of realism wouldn’t go amiss. It’s not even bloody August yet and some of you would have us relegated because we haven’t bought everyone we need. ‘ave a word…..

  • Big Stan says:

Well, really. Annoying. But then was it anything more than empty rumour anyway? Smoke and mirrors? Of course players want to go for big six teams. We need quality under-rated signings like when we got Kudus. Just got to be patient I guess.

  • Kip says:

This is just ridiculous every deal is falling through..BUT NEVER OUR FAULT..I thought this was going to change when moyes went …f* ridiculous…absolute clowns running our club ….

  • Carl says:

I’m sure Sullivan is ultimately the one bodging it but Wan-Bissaka, Walker-Peters, Mazraoui? Steidten hardly uncovering hidden gems in the right back department is he? They could employ any of us and we could identify them as players.
Where’s the unknown “pearls” he’s supposed to find?

  • Hamble Hammer says:

We would be better off getting Del Boy and Rodney to do our dealings down Peckham Market at least we would get some result. What a complete and utter cock-up as usual and that’s putting it politely. SHAMBLES

  • Ray says:

Another thought, just who is it that terminates these deals? Is it Lopetegui or Steidten or someone else? They were on the cusp of signing a major player on the cheap and throw it away because of a greedy agent. Why worry if it is still a good deal overall?

  • Ray says:

Typical West Ham, no matter who the cast members are, they just cannot or will not get a deal done. The top eight can but not WHU. Three weeks to the start of the new season and WHU are worse off than at the end of 23/24. Five weeks left to the close of the transfer window and we will likely see panic setting in soon if they cannot secure some quality players in the next two weeks. So far they have managed only one first team signing.

  • My left foot says:

Bruno: i don’t want to play for West Ham
Todibo: i don’t want to play for West Ham
AWB: i don’t want to play for West Ham
Mazraoui: i don’t want to play for West Ham
There’s a familiar pattern happening here. We never seem to get the big names over the line with the “we tried” thrown at us. It all comes down to money. We offered 13m for Mazraoui, manure have offered 17m and they’ll pay the agents fees no problem. We get what we deserve, old has beens and crocked players

  • Db says:

Man utd was always favourite to sign him .
Probably shenanigans to try to force price down for Bissaka going for a player that Man utd have been in talks with well before WHU …
Let’s just get the deal done with either Southampton Or Man utd and move on to the next one its a typical WHU clusterf##k as usual….

  • SydneyC says:

I think we have dodged a bullet here. His injury record is quite lengthy. It’s why he’s only worth 15 million.
It’s not about running out of money. The player would prefer to go to a big club like manu than West Ham. The reality is West Ham have little negotiating power other than paying over the odds for players. We’re not a ā€˜big club’ and we aren’t in Europe.

  • West Ham Fan No 32 says:

    Is anyone surprised?

The board have themselves to blame for this should have got rid of Moyes last year and we would probably have finished in European places.

  • TTRITH says:

You’d think Sullivan would have an open cheque book. Surely if he can work out if he wants to overly inflate the ticket prices at the London Stadium we need the squad to boot?

You have to begin to question Steidten’s ability. The squad needed a RB, CB, LW and ST at the minimum. So far we’ve paid over the odds for Kilman because the manager wanted him (fair play) and we’ve played a premium for an unproven youngster.

We’ve failed miserably at right back, and will continue with Coufal and an out of position Casey as our two options. And we were willing to value Duran at Ā£50million. Ā£75million on players who wouldn’t start the season?!

Sullivan’s attitude to pay peanuts unless it involves his mate Salthouse means we’ve also lost Ben Johnson this summer.

What Lopetegui is thinking is anyones guess. If we go into the season with only 3 of the 8 signings he felt he needed he’ll be out the door.

  • Jimbo says:

Spot on. Tim has only tricked himself here. Perhaps he isn’t quite the magician we all thought he was? Less game playing might serve us better in the market?

  • Matt says:

Didn’t need another lightweight injury prone Moroccan. Can we sign KWP now and end the madness please!

  • My left foot says:

With this deal now dead in the water, AWB wants Milan, Southampton are gonna be laughing their bo***cks off cos they’ll have us over a barrel begging for KWP

    • Kip says:

Yep and we sold flyn our bargaining chip to them ….we are so f* dumb it’s unreal

  • Anon says:

Sullivan and Brady worse than useless the only thing they are good at is fleecing loyal supporters

  • Jimbo says:

Apparently he prefers Man U and asked us for a wheelbarrow of money to sign for a lowly club, as did his agent, so we walked. Wan Bassaka has turned us down too. The harsh reality is we are not in Europe and so must target players who are up and coming and/or not full of self-worth and consider themselves above West Ham. That rules out 99% of the names I’ve seen. – Walker-Peters will sign but Southampton will rightly make us pay through the nose. Ditto Chalabah. And now Villa sending out BS that Newcastle want Duran and will pay over Ā£35m. Well they can have him at that price. Move on.

  • Ed Clark says:

Just keep Coufal at right back.
    Saves a lot of trouble.

  • mark wiggins says:

What a surprise , not ! Did the agent ask for more than £10!. We are a joke

  • Ian G says:

Glad to hear we will not pay the leeches they call agent. More clubs should stand up to them. Could be a blessing in disguise.

  • deathblow says:

Good. He would have been a waste of money…but, I can see Steidten and Lopetegui walking as this is all down to the poison dwarf.

It’s no coincidence we are having the same problems as we did when David Moyes was in charge. I bet he’s laughing his socks off counting his UEFA riches for doing nothing.

This complete sh*t of an owner finds it no problem at all signing Ings behind everyone’s back, getting his filthy pants pulled down by Villa, and giving him a long contract and huge wages. Yet when it comes to paying agent’s fees and other stuff we hate but everyone has to cough up, he ruins deals. Not to mention giving the green light to selling off our best young Academy players for a mercenary chancer.

When this all goes t*t’s-up we’ll be mocked for getting rid of Moyes, but we all know it’s the owner who needs getting rid of and had Moyes stayed exactly the same thing would be happening.

I hate him and the dame and what with the ever-increasing prices for season tickets, the removal of concessions and the clammer for money spending rich tourists rather than us mouthy West Ham fans who call him out, I am sick and tired of everything surrounding my club. Don’t get me started on the sh*t ground.

    • Hammeroo says:

Please tell us all about the sh*t ground. Sullivan got it real cheap. Luvly Jubbly!

  • John says:

    Shock! Any stories on zaha?..zzzzz

  • Hammeroo says:

How long before J-Lo packs his bags and walks out on another club? West Ham under Sullivan seems no better than Wolves. That’s what you get when you have Arthur Daley running the show! 🤔

    • DJ says:

A bit of an overreaction given we’ve spent Ā£65 million quid. And JL will be working closely with TS so will know what’s going on. Everyone would be as critical if not more so, if we just pay vastly over the odds for players (Kilman is a bit steep fir me but clearly whoJL wanted). But use it as a lazy stick to beat Sullivan with by all means.

    • Shawn Harding says:

After 62 years of being a supporter, I have come to a conclusion during this time that whilst us fans don’t really know what is going on the clubs transfer deals are run as a cross between the trading of Steptoe and Son, Del Boy Trotter with a heavy hint of Claude Greengrass thrown in.

  • Rob Meacham says:

One word to describe West Ham’s abysmal transfer dealings so far…EMBARRASSING. Same old, same old.

    • Kip says:

      I know it’s absolutely infuriating…never our fault apparently…
      I’m f* done….absolute clowns running our club

  • Alan Carroll says:

What a surprise,no more incoming this summer ,run out of money! šŸ˜€

  • DB0895 says:

It looks like Steidten is doing exactly what he’s got a track record of – he wants Wan-Bissaka. He’s pushed Man Utd to now buy this chap so they have to sell Wan-Bissaka to us due to PSR. He’s done this before several times..go on Tim!

    • Whippet hammer says:

I thought the Manure one had decided we’re not good enough for him, so how does that work?

Getting exceptionally tired of lack of progress.

      2 players in.

Other clubs are hoovering up players with little apparent fuss and we’re fumbling about, as ever, like a 4 year old trying to do his flies up.

    • Ian says:

I really hope you’re right about this. Wan Bissaka is the player I hoped we would sign, and thought maybe as we knew ManU wanted this lad from Bayern, we feigned interest in order to push them into buying him, and hopefully reducing the price for Wan Bissaka.
But it’s been reported that he now wants to go to Inter and has turned us down, despite stories here that he was desperate to return to London.
So unfortunately it looks like we’ve not signed either!
Neco Williams would be an excellent signing now

      • Ant L says:

There is nothing to suggest Nico Williams would be an excellent signing. Average player in an average team. Really should be setting out sight higher, and earlier, than now.

    • vince says:

Apart from the player has already said he doesnt want to join us its a great plan that cant go wrong

  • Carl says:

It appears that we’re no better now than we’ve ever been at negotiating transfers. Steidten has had a bit of a free ride but questioning what benefit he brings if he continually loses these signings.
On the bright side, although we couldn’t agree Agent terms, at least we were talking to the right one
