Captain Dec going big on Hammers striker

|

Seb Haller has been getting too much stick because he has a personality difference to most modern footballers.

He’s of course – as has been widely discussed – not a smiler or celebration man…he has a job to do and clearly wants to do it efficiently and without too much fuss and bother.

He scored a belter on Sunday and made right nuisance of himself at times. What more do you want? Seemingly, laughter, smiles at least and major celebrations preferably.

Even VAR apparently can’t stop the wild and often premature celebrations – seems to me Seb may just be ahead of the curve.

I come from the Mooro era and I honestly can’t recall my still hero getting involved in all that over the top and often infantile stuff – too cool, too classy.

Whenever I saw him score he abruptly turned -walked calmly back to his own half and let the rest of ’em do the semi manic stuff. Seb’s in very good company.

Mind you that was a period where we tended to pat each other on the back rather than hug, kiss and get involved in choreographed dance routines when the ball hit the back of the net.

In the meantime new skipper Declan Rice has been showing proper leadership qualities by coming to the support of a guy who deserves the same from the rest of us right now.

Discussing his contribution of late he said: Seb has been unbelievable since he’s come back. It seems like his confidence is back.

We know his qualities and that’s what we saw at Frankfurt, he pretty much scores every time, so we need to keep giving him the ball and he will continue to be a threat.”

A fit and firing Haller is precisely who is getting plenty of support what we need at the moment – well said Dec!

Oh the younger generation! I remember when Mooro scored one of his rare 30 yarders, he’d turn around and walk calmly back to his own half with a serene, contented look on his face. His body language said it all, “This is what I’m being paid for: job done.”

Happy to see Rice comment on Haller showing more captain traits. That will hopefully boost Haller’s confidence morem And Haller didn’t get the ball a lot, Bowen wasted what would of been an assist to go for it & Fornals shot with no chance. Again everyone talks about Benrahma on the left but I’d like to see him on right too his first season at Brentford he played there left & #10 & got 19 assists a number from right side. Just hope he doesn’t get pigeon holes to only Fornals can come off for him bc has to play LW but he doesn’t. I like Haller though I understand both sides, I didn’t know about his son & everyone talks about how good he was at Frankfurt where he was also called Bulldozer Sean not just cool bird bc of his hold up & power. Point is it seems a lot forget how good he was before Fabianski got injured. He didn’t score against Man City but defending from front very. Well for debut then two goals Watford one over head Kick & was leading line well with Felipe & Antonio or Yarmo either side…. He slumped after that like a lot of players. But he has also shown which we did see a lot at Frankfurt some great technique with a lovely Rabona assist. I hope he keeps kicking on & his confidence grows. Strikers need games & Rice is doing well talking him up imo. Still not 100 on spending £10m or so on King who has 6mo left & 12 Pens of his 48 goals o think Diaz could be more long term & on loan at first less risky or go young like 24yo Bouyale Dia who think would do well in PL

He is a quality striker, but has drawbacks in our system but once we starting getting crosses in the box for him he’ll score a bunch more.
