Carroll/Sakho injuries: What’s going on?

|

CarrollsakhoAndy Carroll was injured on August 18 against Astra in the Europa League qualifying game when we were told he would return within four to six weeks.

That would have seen him back in action last weekend yet we are still waiting and thus the latest medical update becomes  a bit of a poser.

This is from head of medical and sports science Stijn Vandenbrouck on the official site: “Andy Carroll is continuing his rehab following the knee injury he suffered in the UEFA Europa League tie in Romania in August.

“He is working as hard as he can on the pitch and in the gym, making progress.

“Andy has a few bridges to cross before he can join in first team training.” A few bridges to cross doesn’t sound great does it?

Sakho, meanwhile is reported to be pain free and “close” to the required fitness levels. In fact he’s been close to them apparently for the past three weeks and appears to have got stuck because from all accounts he remains behind Carroll.

The situation on him apparantly is that: “Diafra Sakho is also undertaking his own pre-season, working very hard on his fitness levels with a view to join the squad on the pitch. “ How many stones overweight was he exactly????

We are now two months into the season and seems as far away as ever from seeing a return by the pair.

Will somebody please tell us what the hell is going on exactly!

Does seem odd that Sakho isn’t back yet when we was told he could of been in the squad against Palace the week before! Surely he’ll be on the bench this weekend or against Chelsea. Carroll will come back and get injured again no doubt. However once we have all these players back are we going to change the system? Or still keep 1 up top?

  • West Ham Fan No 32 says:

Maybe something has gone on, Sakho was supposed to be back soon, Slav said as much so unless he and Carroll have had a set back which of course is possible then it does seem a bit odd doesn’t it ?

  • Eddie says:

Carrolls busy in the boozer & Sakho is probably still stropping. Is there more to it than meets the eye?
Who knows, thats one for the conspiracy theorists hehe

  • danielson79 says:

Is it even worth suggesting to sell them and give Fletcher and Martinez a run or am I preaching to the converted?

    • Alfie says:

The problem with that danielson is who will buy them.Would you pay big money for a three legged greyhound 🙂

  • Alfie says:

Its time the club come clean.I reckon Carrolls injury was worse than the club had the balls to admit to.It must be embaressing to have to constantly tell the world your striker is lame yet again..
Sakho has probably joined a hippy commune in Goa.

It makes me less comfortable with AC’s drinking habits, I was expecting him on the bench this weekend, on that basis and considered as I did that he had done all the hard rehab work I didn’t mind the couple of beer sessions…but if he still has it all to do what exactly is going on and who is managing him.

They will both be playing again soon . I am convinced about it . The ” no news ” is a deliberate miss-information tactic .
Carroll should be either fit to play , or fit to retire .. as no talk of retirement has slipped out , then we only assume his imminent return .
Sakho is another case entirely ; he had back problems two seasons ago . With West Brom turning him down it would seem he is finished !! . But I think he will be ready pretty soon .
Yes , it’s mysterious as to why the recoveries are taking what seems like an age . But I still prefer to believe that when they are are ready we shall see them for the whole of the remaining season . Creswell returned pretty sharply , so one has to suppose the Injuries to Carroll & Sakho are more severe than first suspected .
It would be Great to see them in action again , but as a West Ham fan , I am expected to suffer .

  • RickHammer says:

Carrolls finished,if he ever actually started lool.Alright im being flippant but he is 27,28 now?
Well his body aint going to get less susceptible to injuries as he gets older is it?
I cant see it anyway, but hey im just a numbskull what do i know lool 🙂

  • Tone not Tore says:

Since Sept 2012 AC has missed 92 matches. If that was a Spuds or Chelsea player who they still called their main man striker we would all be laughing our heads off.

  • Radai Lama...Rises From The Ashes says:

Sakho aint much better Tone.He has missed over 40 games since we signed him.If he had been with us over the same time period as The China Doll he would be around the 90 mark as well lol

  • JB says:

There is something strange going on with this Carroll injury. It was ment to be 6-8 weeks. So he should have been back mid to late September.Even he said himself when it was suggested he had suffered a setback that everything was fine & on course.
Now 4-6 weeks since he was ment to be back he aint & we get told he has bridges to cross.
None of it adds up imho. There is something going down 😛

  • GW says:

Nothing strange about the China Doll think most of us knew that one tap on his balsa wood bones and he’d be out for countless months ! But no doubt he deserves benefit of the doubt to some as he necks another Pepperoni and tucks into his thin crust pepperoni on his personal rehabilitation course 🙂

    • GW says:

      Necks a Peroni even lol

      • Tone not Tore says:

        Necks a Pepperoni Lol
You must have been reading the sister site too much yesterday when we could all find out what topping they were going to have on their pizzas.I was so engrossed Lol

        • GW says:

Missed that one Tone no doubt it ended in a barring when someone questioned the powers that be’s choice of a thin crust Hawaiian:)

  • SwissStu says:

My money is on diciplinary action due to the drinking.

  • Alfie says:

Well i read the medical report that comes out on a wednesday on the OS & Stijn whats his name said his rehab is going as planned.Whether he ment injury rehab or beer rehab im not sure 😀

  • Radai Lama...Rises From The Ashes says:

I said it start of last season & nothing has changed,i dont even count him as part of our first team anymore. If he turns up for a dozen matches a season & scores some goals then good.
Its pointless planning for him to be around for more than a dozen or so games a season.
We are stuck with him though, who in their right minds would sign him lol

  • mattefumi27 says:

You can’t harry King Andy… he has his own time: one cold beer, some shopping, a couples of selfies, a good movie lying on his couch, a nice long nap and rest assured he’ll be stronger than ever… come on, let him enjoy his 80k a week, he does deserve that money, I’ll have words with any man who says otherwise… loool 😀

    • GW says:

Matte your right who needs a footballer who actually plays we should all leave poor little Andy alone it’s not his fault his bones are made from tagliatelle:)

    • RickHammer says:

I think its time he had a stand named after him Matte. He deserves that at the very least 🙂

    • mattefumi27 says:

Haha… lol Rick and GW, two valid points… I confess, I had not considered that… 😀

  • RickHammer says:

I think im right in believeing Carroll has missed more games than he has played.I think one of my friends said he has missed 92 matches & only started 57 league matches for us since we signed him.You couldn’t make it up.

  • jimbo says:

Apparently AC’s in rehab whilst Sakho is stuck in South America taking Lessons from Enner in how to avoid the CSA! Well that’s what this tall Geordie fella with long hair told me in the pub just now, anyway.

    • RickHammer says:

Was this tall long haired Geordie drinking through a straw with a plaster cast from the neck down.If he did i think i know who it coud have been Dumbo lool

  • jimbo says:

Yeah, that’s the one Rick. Apparently he went to school (once) and his teacher was called Mr Jimmy Zizz! Small world hey.

  • WestGoaHam says:

Do players still get a pie and a pint at half time?
