The rumours around Taty Castellanos supposedly angling for a move this summer has taken on a life of its own, but strip away the speculation and you’re left with a simple truth, the rumours don’t stand up to scrutiny. Not financially and not contractually.
According to one of our sources, West Ham have made it clear they expect him to stay, along with a few other key players.
Castellanos is tied to West Ham until June 2030, with the club holding an additional one‑year option. That’s potentially four more years of guaranteed Premier League‑level earnings if the club gains promotion from the Championship at the first attempt.
Taty has already scored in pre-season
His Premier League wage sat at £77,000 per week, and post relegation that has halved to £38.5k per week, a figure that many foreign clubs can match, but not in a way that replicates the full package West Ham have already put in front of him.
Taty’s representatives would need to be looking for a salary well above £77k per week, a minimum four‑to‑five‑year contract and to find a club willing to commit that level of money to a 27‑year‑old who turns 28 in October. That combination is rare, expensive and unlikely.
If West Ham were promoted at the first attempt, Castellanos would be forfeiting around £18 million in earnings by leaving now, assuming the club activates the extra year.
No agent worth their licence is advising a player to walk away from that kind of guaranteed money.
It’s worth also remembering his previous wage at Lazio was just under £48k per week, meaning even a Championship wage at West Ham is only a £9,500 reduction, hardly a financial crisis.
Staying is the safe, lucrative, career‑smart choice, which should be music to our ears!
Of course he wants to play at a higher level. Who wouldn’t.
He’s lucky to be on that 37k, I bet there isn’t a player in the Championship on that or anywhere near apart from at WH. He’s not a PL player of note. He got a few goals when more often than not it didn’t matter. If he wants to play a higher league than the Championship he’ll only be a squad player. He can stay and we can all see if he is any good. I still have my doubts. If he goes so be it. I won’t miss him.
I think there is also another factor that he is highly unlikely to ever end up in the national team.
Hopefully he is happy and this just an agent making mischief I have to wonder if so why these players bother with those parasites.
