Chicharito puts future aside until summer

|

Chicharito has hailed the victory over Newcastle as the perfect result and performance!

The striker’s position at the club has come under scrutiny regularly since his move to the East End but it maybe that we are finally seeing something approaching the real thing from the Mexican.

It was rumoured strongly that he wanted a move to Spain in the window but that the Hammers and Valencia couldn’t agree on a £12 million fee.

Since then he has been showing better form and although a handballed goal caused great controversy among the fans he looks a better player now perhaps than in any time since he joined us from the Bundesliga.

He has been first choice striker over recent games and was responsible for the penalty scored by Mark Noble at the weekend when fouled.

It will be interesting to see what happens at the end of the season and whether or not he moves on but for now he is relatively content with his contribution.

He told www.whufc.com: “It was perfect because we managed to keep a clean sheet, we scored two goals, we generated a lot of chances so yes, it was a very good match and now we’re going to think about Cardiff to try and get three points and get into the European places.

“I want to thank the boss and all his staff because I’m trying to be in my best shape, I hadn’t scored that much, but I [was fouled for] a penalty today, they have given me their trust and the most important thing is that the team is getting the results.

“That’s the great thing about internal competition, we’re all fighting for a starting spot, we all want to play as much as possible and now I want to thank the coach by playing well which is the best possible way.

“As every striker I want to score goals, but we know that the most important thing are the results, to play well and get three points so can’t complain really.”

“I’m only thinking about Cardiff, working for the coach to give me the chance to start again, play my best, score goals and help the team. That’s my future at the moment, as for the rest we will speak when the season is over, right now we just need to play well so we can finish in a European spot.

“This club is in a transition in which it wants to qualify every year for Europe, that’s the idea and that’s why they hired this coaching staff and a lot of players, we’re playing in this stadium that can fit 60,000 fans so that’s the idea in the short, medium and long term.

“We want to start doing it this year and help the club get used to be always fighting to finish in a top seven spot.”

I hope he starts against Cardiff. A (honest) goal against the Bluebirds will boost his confidence, and I can’t see any justification for Arnie getting in ahead of him right now. It’s good that he’s looking over his shoulder though – I hope it keeps him sharp – and he’s shown more loyalty to the club than Arnie.

He has been playing well, he scores goals none of our other players can, he senses where the ball will be and like any great striker he always follows up and is usually at the ball before most defenders have sensed any danger.
