Conference Rewards revealed

|

West Ham will bank £15m IF they manage to win the Europa Conference League.

The Hammers kick off their campaign tonight against Romanian side FCSB, and are also set to play Anderlecht and Silkeborg in the Conference League group stages.

Last season, of course, the Irons reached the Europa League semi-finals, only to lose to Eintracht Frankfurt.

The Hammers will be aiming to reach the final of the third-tier competition but even if they do, sources have confirmed they are only going to bank £15m max.

That works out at 50% of the potential Europa League rewards that were on offer, and 10% of the revenue on offer if a club manages to win the Champions League.

Still, David Moyes’ side will be desperate to lift a trophy this season and one feels that the Conference League offers a very realistic chance of doing just that.

The main rivals to do so feel like Spanish side Villarreal and Italian side Fiorentina at this point.

I guess it’s better than no European competition. But it does beg the question, why didn’t the club try harder to gain those points and or a quality addition in Jan to see us get Europa league.
