Each Premier League point cost West Ham £2.1m according to offthepitch.com who have compiled a table.
The table divides the last published wage bill by the total number of points, in the case of West Ham that is £106m divided by the 52 point tally in the 2018/2019 Premier League season to reach to that figure. Fulham, Newcastle and Spurs also spent £2.1m per point despite having different point totals.
Wolves came out the best with just £0.9m and Manchester United worst with £4.5m per point.
However, there is a small flaw in the table which makes the figures inaccurate.
The published wages figures were based on 2017/2018 Premier League season as no figures for last season have been published so far. West Ham’s real wage bill last season is thought to be closer to £115m per annum making the cost per point around £2.2m and Wolves, Huddersfield and Fulham are artificially low based on their season in the Championship.
Who comes up with these pointless 😉 tables? Total waste of effort. does it take into account the tv/prize money etc earned or just made the table up to fit their own agenda?
If they took 1964ish wages it would add up to about 50p per goal.. Just as stupid as using 2017/18 years accounts for last season.
I may be wrong but I think I saw figures somewhere showing Wolves current wage level being above ours. It is certainly a lot more than £50m, which might help to explain why players who were being strongly linked with us last summer ended up playing for Wolves e.g. Dendoncker & Raul Jimenez . That also helps to explain why they finished above us -& most of the PL- & why they will be predicted to be above us again in 2019/20.
