TCotteeTony Cottee wants to become West Ham’s new attacking coach!

Despite Teddy Sheringham seemingly being in pole position for the job, TC believes he should be given the chance and told ClaretandHugh exclusively: “They’ve got my telephone number!”

Thus far however, he says, he’s not heard from anyone at the club as Sheringham’s name has been bandied around along with Les Ferdinand who immediately denied reports.

Cottee – one of Upton Park’s greatest ever goalscorers – said: “I would love the chance to talk with Sam Allardyce and I would love the opportunity to work with the strikers.

“Whoever gets the job must have carte blanche to do it his way – it’s about the physical approach and the mental. You have to get inside their heads and work out  what they are good at what may be bugging them.”

He’s aware however that Sam Allardyce plays a one-up system and asked if therefore he was the right man TC said: “You will have to ask Sam.

“At the end of the day the manager will decide the style of play, the approach and the tactics so the attacking coach needs to know exactly what’s required.

He added: “As we know West Ham fans demand a certain style of football. We will have to wait and see if they will be more entertaining.

“Something has to give and I cannot see the fans giving in and Sam will have to compromise a little bit. “
