Cottee’s PAI timing is a bit strange

|

I like Tony Cottee – always have and always will!

His decision to become involved in the PAI Capital operation which is currently running a press campaign to take over the Hammers is of course entirely his.

It won’t make any difference to my friendship with him which goes back to my days on the Sunday Mirror when he was binned by Harry Redknapp and found himself at Selangor FC in Malaysia – it looked like end of career at the age of 32.

To cut a long story short I rang him and ran a full page piece in the Mirror. The outcome was that Martin O’Neil spotted it and moved in for him, resurrected his career with TC scoring 27b goals in 85 games over three seasons.

We’ve got on ever since and truth is he’s a really nice bloke who has blogged for Cand H on several occasions along with the official site.

However, I’m a tad surprised that as a top football bloke he should choose to make his involvement with PAI known at a stage of the season which is critical for the Irons and which in the case of PAI seems to have been chosen deliberately, possibly, to unsettle things.

PAI seem quite keen to create as much publicity for themselves as possible at a time of the season which is always crucial for clubs.

Tony is a proper football bloke so to be joining the campaign at the start of an important season seems a bit strange – I am choosing my words carefully.

Most agree that PAI’s moves so far have been something of a car crash and it seems more than  obvious – given the club’s response – that no bid is going to succeed.

Tone is a top guy but joining the Ferdinand brothers in what seems to be bid which looks as though its failed before its begun may not be the cleverest move in the world.

PAI probably dangled a big enough carrot to recruit him ?

I thought you were his mate?

      • i think i explained unless you want to misunderstand. Your call. It’s possible to disagree with friends without falling out . Maybe some don’t understand that. It’s not a case of being pals. Firms recruiting front men in circumstances such as this, pay them. That’s how it works.

Brown paper bag at a motorway cafe?
If the best interests of the club are at heart, why now?
Maybe following a defeat, this lot may gain more traction?
    So many questions.

Well it’s safe to say if Cottee is involved the bid will go nowhere, when it comes to trying to buy the club he has a string of failures behind him and would have been as bad as PAI if they ever took over, he has this obsession with being our chairman but never has the money to do it.
