Coufal is in exalted Hammers company

West Ham‘s fury at the international break issues is more than understandable but they won’t be too unhappy that Vladimir Coufal has been sent home by the Czech Republic which according to one of the local papers out there was for allegedly drinking in the early of the morning after the game. If that indeed is the case then Coufal is in exalted Hammers company writes Hughie Southon.

Bobby Moore, Brian Dear and Jimmy Greaves failed to appear in the FA Cup match against Blackpool  over 50 years ago in 1971. Believing the next day’s game had been called off because of weather conditions, they went to boxer Brian London’s club the night before. Later the match was actually declared to be on but manager Ron Greenwood refused to use them and the team was beaten 4-0.

Now,  a Czech local paper claims to have  seen a video of Coufal and two team mates – also sent home for breaking team rules –  showing  them in a night club enjoying a few bevvies.

The Hammers, meanwhile will be privately happy that the right back will be available for the match at Burnley – David Moyes’ reaction however remains to be seen. However, Michail Antonio most certainly won’t be  and we will need to wait until after a scan to see if Jarrod Bowen will make it.

Bobby Moore, Clyde Best and Jimmy Greaves all played in the 3rd Round FA Cup tie at Blackpool. Brian Dear was an unused substitute.

Moore and Greaves were dropped by Greenwood for the next 2 League games against Arsenal (away) and Leeds (home) Brian Dear never played again for the West Ham First Team,
Bobby Moore played as a 2nd half substitute in the friendly against Charlton on 22nd January. His first League game after Blackpool was as a 2nd half substitute against Derby County at Upton Park on 6th February. West Ham were losing 3-0 at half time.

At the Derby game there were banners “Moore sub the final sick joke”

In the week after the Blackpool game, “This is your life Bobby Moore” was shown on TV.
Ron Greenwood did not appear despite having been Bobby Moore’s West Ham Manager for more than 10 year. Alf Ramsey appeared as England Manager.
