Maxwel Cornet is ready to play his part for West Ham
Maxwel Cornet might emerge as an unexpected beneficiary of the injuries to both Michail Antonio and Jarrod Bowen. The injuries to these two West Ham attackers have left the team unexpectedly light in the forward department.
With Danny Ings struggling for goals and confidence, and Divin Mubama seemingly side-lined, there’s an available forward spot. Maxwel Cornet, signed for £17m from Burnley 18 months ago, has seen limited action. The Ivorian suffered a calf injury last season and opted for treatment in France rather than utilising West Ham’s medical team.
Since his return, Cornet hasn’t had a proper opportunity in the first team. Whether David Moyes no longer trusts the player remains uncertain, but it’s evident that Cornet is currently not in the manager’s plans.
This situation could present a chance at redemption for Cornet. While primarily known as a winger, he is capable of operating effectively as a striker too. Prior to his injury, he partnered with Gianluca Scamacca in the Hammers’ attack and showed promise.
If Moyes can set aside past concerns, he might discover that the solution to West Ham’s injury crisis is already within the squad in the form of Maxwel Cornet.
