Lucas Paquetá’s situation at West Ham appears to have been relegated from ‘top spot’ in the club’s crisis rankings owning to Julen Lopetegui’s perilous head coach position just now. Heading to a ‘must not get thrashed game’ on Monday night against Newcastle United, the club and supporters are focused more on trying to dodge a big black and while coloured bullet than on observing the plight of their troubled Brazilian playmaker.
West Ham’s options for Paquetá are pretty unenviable right now. The Brazilian is hopelessly out of form, quite clearly preoccupied with his forthcoming double enquiries in both Brazil and then at the FA in England next year regarding his alleged yellow cards betting scandal. The club could see their hitherto £85 million player banned for life and worth nothing. So, maybe just to grab any sale for him and pass the problem onto someone else? A massive financial gamble which would backfire if he is found ‘not guilty’: Paquetá has always denied all of the allegations.
And so when a headline appears today detailing “The Laughable Price for Which Lucas Paqueta Could Leave West Ham“, I’m shocked and I’m sure that nobody in East London is laughing.
However, fichajes.net detail that:”Lucas Paquetá could leave West Ham for a much lower amount of money than his market value” and continue on to specify the exact amount:
“Lucas Paquetá, .. a key piece in the Hammers’ scheme, is reportedly on the list of possible departures from the London club, which is willing to negotiate for a figure close to 30 million euros. The discount in his price, considering his market value of 55 million, has sparked the interest of several teams, especially in his home country, Brazil.”
30 million euros for a player who could quite possibly never play again? Now, that’d be a sensible piece of business. Maybe it is time to cut our losses with Lucas Paquetá so that both the player and the club can move forward. Glad it isn’t my decision though.
Why criticise our players all the time? We are supposed to be supporters. Paqueta works hard and is our only creative player, apart from Bowen of course. Their are grounds for criticising all of our team at times except Bowen. However, the rest have had their good moments and most work hard. Paqueta has given the ball away too often but he has a lack of forwards to aim at due to age or inexperience. A youngish striker is our main transfer aim.
A player from Brazil gets yellow cards in games when, coincidentally, a load of people from his home town in Brazil have happened to very specifically bet on him getting a yellow card in those games. Sure Lucas “Not Guilty”…
The guy’s had less than a dozen good games in the last 2 years – they should bite the arm off anyone who’ll take him.
I’d take the cash and if he’s found not guilty then so be it. But if he’s found guilty, I would then sue him for the balance.
Never been worth 85 million. It was just the rumoured figure if his release clause wasn’t it? City might have gone to 85 for Declan Rice, if Arsenal hadn’t offered 105. For Paqueta maybe City would have payed 70 million but they are no mugs. I would sell him for 40. He’s not worth that much but I’d take it.
It’s so suspicious that just days before Paqueta’s transfer these allegations were conveniently leaked to Man City . We all know that if the positions were reversed no leak would have come to to prevent Westham from making the purchase . In the last few years Westham have been scammed out of so much money by so many people . It’s the reason you don’t allow some old grand dad to handle the finances . Sullivan needs to retire before there’s nothing left .
I don’t believe for one minute that paqueta has done anything wrong it could be a huge mistake to sell him off cheap because whoever buys him will massive profit when he’s found not guilty but I understand the risk but there are more reasons to keep him than to get rid on the cheap when he’s on top of his game he is unplayable
