West Ham Joint Chairman David Gold was interviewed by TalkSport presenter Ian Abrahams this afternoon at Rush Green. The interview was broadcast on TalkSport at around 5 pm.
Gold told the Moose he expects to be at West Ham for the rest of his life but added he was disappointed they had not achieved more.
He would have loved to have got to a cup final but was still hopeful . He explained the best thing he has done while in charge was to move the football club to the Olympic Stadium while saying no-one loved Upton Park more than him.
Questioned about taking West Ham to the next level the Chairman told radio listeners that those promises were not written in stone, they are our hopes and our dreams.
Gold added:“There are promises we made that were hopeful promises, you can’t guarantee that your players aren’t going to get injured and therefore you are not going to be in the top half of the table or you are not going to get in a cup final or you are not going to progress as hoped.
There are promises you know you can deliver and promises you hope you can deliver and we shouldn’t be lambasted because we failed in some of those promises. Those promises still exist, we promised to do our absolute best we can and I feel every day we are doing the best, we are not leaving stones unturned, we are doing everything we can to continually improve this football club”
Listen to the full David Gold interview as he speaks about his ten-year anniversary as a West Ham owner below.
How can david gold say that moving to the Olympic stadium was the best thing that they have done in the 10 years..it is singularly the WORST thing they have done and the worst thing any board has done in the last 100 years at West Ham, the bond scheme was bad but not like this, Hearing david gold I’m lost for words at points. I think he’s out of touch with West Ham fans..As for moose less said the better.
Maybe you should factor in his age
Hugh I understand he is in his eighties. I think the whole board are out of touch including karren brady, Tara Warren and they are a lot younger than david gold.
Yes but they on’t own the club and my point was that maybe he should be cut a bit more slack when he makes some mis-statements probaby due to age as much as anything else
Talksport presenters still prattling on about “it’s not a football stadium”…… **** off. I watch football there; so it obviously is a football stadium; 26,000 more supporters watch football there; ask them.
As long as we let a minority of supporters act as if they are the voice of the majority, then the cheap journalism of Talksport and others will focus on the discontent.
We are not going back to the past; get over it or go elsewhere.
This is the first concerted period since the 1980’s when we can be confident the Club is not going to go bust. I personally don’t like the way our owners made much of their money; I do think they have spent it wisely on the club. They are clearly the best owners we have had in terms of financial prudence and they are working hard on the team.
Legit, it is not about going back to the past. To say go elsewhere is not respecting the opinion of other supporters and actually quite rude. A lot of supporters who feel the board have or are failing the supporters have a right to protest. If your happy with the club then great but a lot aren’t. It is not a minority in my view. You have to respect other supporters point of view.
What a joke this board is 😀 They are all in panic giving interviews because of the protest. All they care is money and imago. Sad….
With the owners coming out recently giving interviews smacks of “damage control” to me.
In his lifetime.
He better hurry up.
Think his heart is in right place but his wallet isnt deep enough. Look at Birmingham city.
The ‘sleeping giant’ is still asleep. Maybe they just cant take us any further cos they havent got the ability and relevant experience
In his lifetime.
He better hurry up
Gettin right fed up now with all this silly talk, we have what we’ve got, savvy, get behind the club and try to improve the remainder of the season, 62 years have passed since my dad carried me in their, never give up😎
Frank supporters will get behind the team. I think it is all very sad. However I agree with the protest. People have the right to vent their frustration. My own passion for the club is wavering and that is the current board that have made me feel that way due to their actions,
“These promises still exist”
Obviously an idiotic statement:

Since when has a promise been close to a promise. Stupidity
“There are promises we made that were hopeful promises” Stand by my comment that they weren’t promises. Disagree with him. The word promise simply isn’t there. Almost looked as tho it was a deliberate thing. And at the risk of repeating myself Iwas never a fan of the stadium and wanted to stay at the Boleyn. Stuck in the middle of an urban wilderness and too far from the action. Not for me
“Those promises still exist, we promised to do our absolute best we can and I feel every day we are doing the best”.
If what they’ve done in the 10 years they’ve been here is their absolute best, well…..
