David Moyes breaks silence on Lingard update

|

David Moyes has confirmed that Jesse Lingard is at West Ham undergoing at a medical but says he could no more information than that currently.

He told reporters at a virtual press conference at 1.30pm that he hoped the deal would go through.

Lingard needed to be registered before 12 noon to be included in the match day squad for Sunday against Liverpool but it appears that deadline has been missed.

The 28-year-old last played for Manchester United on 9th January when appearing for 80 minutes in a FA Cup game against Watford but is said to be match fit having fully trained with the Manchester United squad for many months.

West Ham have come to an agreement with Manchester United for a short term loan without an option to buy worth around £3m made up of a £1.3m loan fee and £1.7m in wages.

Assuming he passes the medical at Rush Green he should be registered to play against Aston Villa at Villa Park next Wednesday.

I just can’t get my head around this signing. Never rated the guy personally, but more to the point, where’s he going to play? We have a settled side at the moment with the whole team playing well and working hard for each other. The attacking players, Antonio, Bowen, Benrahma, Fornals are all shoe in selections. Even the forward thinking subs, Yarmolenko, Lanzini, will surely be ahead of him. Given also he hasn’t played a great deal this season its going to take him a few games to get up to speed! Hope I’m proved wrong but seems a pointless signing to me.

Agree with you PB61. Can’t really see Jesse coming straight into team. £3million for six months. Probably going to take a couple of months to get up to speed – then he’ll have to get used to playing with everyone else. Probably ‘ready’ after five months. What is the point? Hope I’m wrong and he turns out to be brilliant from day one.

Lanzini has offered nothing this season, aside from one wonder goal at Spurs and an assist for Johnson. His best days are behind him at West Ham i reckon, whereas Lingard may have a point to prove, if only to himself rather than anyone else. I trust Moyes’ eye for a transfer. He won’t always get it right but up to now every signing has been impressive.

Lingard has scored goals for club and country. I’m rather looking forward to seeing him in a West Ham shirt.
