David Moyes can take much credit for Jarrod Bowen’s 2023
As we all know Jarrod played a crucial role in West Ham‘s historic triumph in the Europa Conference League last season, contributing five goals and two assists as the team secured its first- European trophy in over 50 years.
Moyes can take much credit for Jarrod Bowen’s 2023
Following his impressive 13-goal performance across all competitions last season, Bowen is continuing his strong form this season with 10 goals already in the Premier League.
This season, Bowen has taken on a new role as the number nine, playing upfront in a revamped front three alongside summer signings Mohammed Kudus and Lucas Paqueta, under the guidance of manager Moyes.
While Bowen’s individual statistics are remarkable, his impact on the overall performance of West Ham is also significant. Analysing the underlying shooting metrics provides insight into this impact.
Last season, West Ham struggled with a low percentage of shots on target, recording only 28% from 466 attempted shots. However, this season has seen a substantial improvement, with the figure rising to an impressive 35%. This positive change of 7% can be attributed to Moyes strategically positioning Bowen closer to the goal instead of having him cut inside from the right.
Remarkably, Bowen has accounted for 22 of West Ham’s 69 shots on target in the league, with the next best in the squad being James Ward-Prowse with just nine.
With Bowen in peak form, the mighty Irons appear poised for another successful European campaign, and the new look David Moyes’ tactical approach seems set to make a significant impact this year.
