David Moyes wants to win the Premier League

|

West Ham manager David Moyes says he starts every season wanting to win the Premier League.

Speaking to reporters via Zoom call for his last pre-match press conference of the Premier League 2019/2020 season the 57-year old Scot said “Progress as seen by the media and the supporters is where you are in the league table. I accept the question. I always want to finish at the top. I always want to be first. I don’t think I’m aiming to be anything other than winning the league.

“I’m not starting the season to finish just outside the bottom three. We’ll start the season to win the league, to win every game. But as I said before if you’re making progress there’s a good chance it will be small steps. So we have to try and do that.

“But the aim at the opening of the season it’s to win every game and be qualifying up at the top end of the league and winning the league. That would be the way to set it out. But then you’ll say ‘come on David start being realistic’. But it’s the question you’ve given me so there you go.”

5th place is the highest Weest Ham have ever finished in the Premier League in 1998/1999 season, in that season under Harry Redknapp the Hammers scored 57 points and qualified for the Intertoto Cup later securing UEFA Cup qualification to mark a return to European competitions after 19 years away.

Prior the Premier League West Ham finish third in the 1985/1986 Division one season under John Lyall but was the closest we have got to win a top-flight league.

West Ham did win Division two as Champions in 1957/1968 under Ted Fenton.

and didn’t West Ham win promotion to top flight with record amount of points scored under the 2 points for a win system…?

Those were days when a £million player was a superstar and not just an Academy prospect….
