Declan’s ready for the Scots

|

Declan Rice is ready for a match he has  described earlier this week as one of the biggest he and his England team mates will face this evening.

Scotland at Wembley is a serious occasion and after winning their opening game in  tournament for the first time in ten attempts when beating Croatia confidence is high.

Declan has been receiving enormous praise across the game for his effective performances in the England shirt and can’t wait for the game this evening.

Speaking to whufc.com he made it clear that he is more than aware o the history between the two teams and ready to help write his own chapter.

He said: “We know  what type of game it will be and the focus is on the Scotland game and going out there and repeating the same performance.”

Declan Rice will come up against Manchester United's Scott McTominay on Friday

While Scotland present a lesser challenge to Croatia on paper, being ranked 30 places lower than the Croats and 40 below England in the FIFA World Rankings at number 44, the 22-year-old knows form often goes out of the window in local derbies, while former West Ham assistant manager Steve Clarke and his squad will be desperate to get one over the Auld Enemy.

Rice also recognises the quality Scotland do have in their ranks, with no fewer than ten players plying their trade in the English Premier League and seven more turning out for Glasgow giants Rangers and Celtic.

He said: “They have got some top players, we all know that. They have a lot of players who play in the Premier League and obviously Che Adams is a top player with Southampton, then they have John McGinn and Scott McTominay in the middle and they are two warriors and Andy Robertson and Kieran Tierney at the back who are two leaders and two great players, so we’re not going to go into this game thinking it will be easy because that would be wrong.

“This game, they’re going to come with everything and we need to give 120% more, so we’re going to be ready and we’re going to go for it.”

*England’s second UEFA Euro 2020 Group D fixture with Scotland will be broadcast live in the UK on ITV1 and the ITV Hub.
