Dejected Declan: “It’s crazy”

|

Emotional Declan Rice was gutted after claiming the ball was headed into his arm leading to Snoddy’s late equaliser being ruled out by VAR.

And there’s no doubt that this is a rule that has to be scrapped at the end of the season because it is quite simply unfair on players who have done absolutely nothing wrong.

The Hammers defensive midfielder had made a quite  magnificent run to set up Snoddy only to find that through no fault of his own the Hammers had been denied what would have been a seriously precious point at Bramall Lane.

And let’s not talk about things levelling themselves out at the end of the seasons – it’s rules such as this which has seen the game go soft and to be honest become something of a laughing stock to the world at large.

Declan is a mild mannered individual but his emotions really showed as he declared: “That was so tough to take. He simply headed the ball into my hand – there was nothing I could do.

“The fans and players were celebrating and then it fores to VAT – football shouldn’t be like that. I can’t get over how he simply headed it into my hand and it’s ruled out. It’s crazy.

“I’m thinking that we have got a great point on the road and then the whistle goes and that happens.”

Surprised that no one is taking issue with the Besic ‘tackle’ on Anderson. Tackle from behind with absolutely no prospect of winning the ball. Thought they were red card challenges? Left Anderson looking injured so won’t be shocked if that is the next news out. Barely got a mention on Sky.

This is the official rule… cant believe it was disallowed!

Premier League players will be allowed extra leeway when it comes to ricocheted handballs.

It is often impossible to avoid contact with the ball if it has deflected off the body of an opponent, team-mate, or even another part of the own player.

So a handball will not be awarded if the ball touches a player’s hand/arm directly from their own head/body/foot or the head/body/foot of another player who is close/nearby.
