David Gold has revealed exactly why the club finally settled on Slaven Bilic as their manager.
And he explained that although statistics associated with such as Rafael Benitez and other top managers impress – the new manager’s passion and ability to bring back the West Ham Way were major influences in their decision.
He said: “Slaven ticked two important boxes. He is an ex West Ham player. He as an amazing passionfor the club and knows the kind of football that’s required.
The second very important tick as that Slaven was the fans favourite for the job.”
He told TalkSport: “It was clear when we interviewed him that he had this passion. You can look at manager statistics but as a West Ham man there is a determination for the club and a will to win in him which is incredibly important.”
DG added: He understands the West Ham Way which is actually a bit of history. It’s about Trevor Brooking or Alan Devonshire carrying the ball from their own half and passing it through midfield rather than lumping it upfield!
“That’s what the fans want to see again and that’s what we believe Slaven will bring to them.”
On Sam Allardyce’s departure he commented: “Sam did a great job – and he achieved all we asked of him but I think four years was probably long enough and if you ask him I think he will agree with that.”
Rather than lumping it upfield, that’s all I need to take from that, well said DG
“You can look at manager statistics but …”
Night and Day.
Well said DG, stats are bulls*it… try explaining that to the engineers of the other site… lol …Anyway I agree, Slav seems to be the right man at the right time 😉 I trust in him.
YES SLAV CAN
Four years was definately long enough.Funny how DG now refers to ‘lumping it upfield’,im sure he wasnt saying that happened under hippo was he,lol 😀
Well well well
There is such a thing as the West Ham way
There will be some googling going on on Wetpants now to see if the stats add up,
DG you could have told Hippo then he might have understood all us fans
Benitez wouldn’t have stayed many years I’m sure. Yes, he’s got merits but I honestly think he’s past his prime. I wanted slav from the start, he’s a man of the people, colourful guy and everybody speaks good of him. Fans and players. Whenyou add his experience, winning %, integrity ++.. Don’t think we could have gotten any better. Klopp also would’ve moved on, I’m sure. Don’t like to draw lines to Arsenal, but he be our wenger in terms of lengthy relationship.
Am i they only one who cant get a ####ing feed on this game?? Cant even get on offical site & daily mail keeps buffering
