Diop now chasing Declan!

|

Issa Diop was a crucial part of the great win over Arsenal at the weekend and was thrilled to be part of a defence which kept the Gunners at bay.

The young Frenchman has spoken regularly of his disappointment when the team concede so to keep a clean sheet against such dangerous strikers was a fabulous achievement.

Diop is one of those players who is giving the Hammers a formidable look this season and has become a serious fans favourite.

At around £22 million he was one heck of a signing and although his partnership with Fabian Balbuena has been interrupted for the time being, he and Angelo Ogbonna have looked a decent pairing over the last couple of games.

He and Declan Rice troo have formed a friendship off the pitch and having been beaten to a first league goal by the defensive midfielder Diop now wants his!

The camaraderie building within the West Ham squad is a joy to behold and an essential element in becoming the ‘big team’ mentality our boss wants to see.

And after the game Diop told www.whufc.com “We are very happy because it was a tough game. We played very well and in the second half they had more chances, but we stayed strong.

“Arsenal are a very strong team, but it’s like another game for us. We are very happy because we won the game. Three points at home are very important for us and for the fans.

“They have amazing strikers at Arsenal. Aubameyang is the joint top goal scorer in the league and Lacazette is also very dangerous. So, when they don’t score, I’m very happy and it tells us that the defence did a good job.”

And of Declan he said: “I hope to score my first goal soon as well. Declan is a very good guy, he scored his first goal for the club and I’m very happy for him!”
