Disruptive break helps absolutely nothing

|

If ever a game of football demonstrated how disruptive international breaks have become it was yesterday’s dour and dull affair at Southampton.

It’s an issue raised regularly at this stage of things and of course and Mikey Antonio was one of the day’s biggest sufferers.

Booked in the final seconds for two yellow cards he will now miss the Manchester United game next Sunday and all we can do is hope that doesn’t prove crucial.

He had looked leg weary throughout after his thousands of miles round trip to represent the Reggae Boys who thankfully from our point of view look certainties not to qualify as they sit bottom of their World cup Group.

The good news is that he could well miss the games against Honduras and El Salvador who are both amber list countries.

Maybe, and it was a tough call to make, the manager might have taken him off earlier but with only one out and out striker on the books that’s a bit tricky

It’s probably also fair to say that neither Tomas or Vladi have looked in the same sort of form as they were last season whilst Declan of course seems to go on forever.

Little point in moaning I supposeĀ  but that doesn’t make the irritation any the less. The breaks may be required but for most of us they are a total pain in the backside.
