Do Dec a favour Gareth – you know it makes sense!

|

Gareth Southgate should give do Declan Rice and West Ham a big favour by resting him from the England team to meet Andorra for Saturday evening’s game.

He won’t be required in a team which will inevitably beat the minnows and thus avoid any injury issue..

Before anybody accuses me of taking anything for granted may I remind them that in six games – home and away – the Three Lions are of course unbeaten and have scored 20 goals along the way. Such games are as near pointless as it gets!

Dec needs a rest big time and his involvement in such a game is totally unnecessary although I have no doubt that Dec being DecĀ  he will be wanting to turn out. I hope Southgate does the sensible thing however.

The same could be argued for the match against Hungary next Tuesday – a team which hasn’t beaten us since way back in 1962.

With England top of their group and six points clear of their opponents, a place on the bench is surely the maximum requirement.

There’s likely to be no such rest for either Tomas or Vladi with the Cezche Republic involved against close rivals Wales, in Group E on Friday and another against Belarus on Monday.
