Downes set for debut at old club

|

Flynn Downes is set to play for the Irons tonight as the Hammers prepare for two pre-season friendlies on the same night.

The Irons will split their squad and send a group of players, both senior and youth, to play both Boreham Wood and Ipswich Town this evening.

Downes was signed from Swansea last week as the Irons aim to beef up their midfield options ahead of the new season.

As per the London Evening Standard, the new Hammers signing will travel with the Ipswich delegation.

He could subsequently play his first minutes for his new club this evening, and it will come at a stadium Downes is familiar with.

The 23-year-old came through the Ipswich academy and played for the club’s first-team between 2017 and 2021, before his move to the Welsh club in the Championship.

Downes only spent a season at the Swans before his move to the Irons in this summer transfer window.

I have got a very good feeling about Flynn, not only do I think that he is going to have a big career with us, but I also believe that he is destined to play for England at some point on the back of this move.
I think he’ll compliment Declan as well as learn loads from him. He has an amazing engine and will no doubt become a favourite with supporters.
    Here’s hoping…
