Exclusive: West Ham deny giving Moyes control of his future

|

Reports that David Moyes will be given the opportunity to decide his own future if he leads the club to European glory have been denied in the strongest possible terms by the club.

Moyes has suffered a seriously difficult season in the Premier League and his transfer spending has been questioned by the board who are now looking for a director of football.

The club’s owner have on three separate occasions the board been close to calling time on his reign this season but have stuck by him. However, it is now being claimed that should he go on to win the Euro Conference League he will decide whether he stays or goes.

According to our highest source at the club that is simply not the case who instead explained that this was nothing more than agent talk – although it wasn’t put as kindly as that!

Moyes will go into the last season of his present contract with the club this summer but it looks certain to be under a new director of football with David Sullivan leading the search for the right candidate. However, the club have made it clear that although he has not been given the authority to decide whether he stays or go he is very likely to remain anyway.

Our source said: “As far as we are concerned David Moyes will be staying. I has become a relatively good season in the League and excellent in Europe.”

However, there may remain a question in the manager’s mind about his future anyway given that he insisted on his return that transfers in and out would be conducted by him and his chosen recruitment chief with no director of football involved.

The report claims the Hammers, who are claimed to considering Tim Steidten for their new director of football role, have also been profiling potential candidates for a new boss this summer in the anticipation of Moyes leaving. Marco Silva, Graham Potter, Brendan Rodgers and Paulo Fonseca are among the managers West Ham have considered.
