Reports that West Ham United’s director of recruitment, Nils Koppen, has not started work for the club yet are false, Claret & Hugh can reveal.

Within the last few minutes, we have spoken to a reputable source who has informed us that earlier speculation this morning suggesting the club were waiting on the Belgian’s arrival is simply not true.

We were told exclusively:

“He has his visa and has started work.”

Panic Over As Koppen Already Underway

So, panic over as far as that is concerned. Not that it was ever really in any doubt.

As a ExWWHUemployee noted earlier this week, Koppen has already held a meeting with Nuno Espírito Santo to discuss transfer targets, and suggestions that the process of identifying players has been delayed are also inaccurate.

Recruitment Plans Already In Motion

It is quite clear from conversations over the past three weeks that West Ham’s ownership are very happy with the appointment of Nils Koppen and are looking forward to building a modern recruitment department capable of taking the club back to the Premier League and beyond.

The message from inside the club remains consistent. Koppen is already in place, already working and already playing an active role alongside Nuno Espírito Santo in shaping West Ham’s recruitment strategy for the season ahead.

I am beginning to think this is all coming from the Sullivan playbook. A few weeks ago, it was looking like the Newcastle guy was about to roll up and sort it all out. Then the Newcastle ex owner was going to buy into the club. Then all the core players were going to stay. Now two have gone, apparently summerville is about to go. All coming out after the season tickets have been sold. Hope I’m wrong but Sullivan would have been proud of that stunt.

Doubt if Nuno & Mendes will take much notice of him!

So where did the rumour come from?
