Fabianski serious doubt for Saturday

|

Lukasz Fabianski has been assessed by the club’s medical team today amid fears he will miss Saturday’s opener against Manchester City.

The 34-year-old  underwent an MRI scan on a groin strain he picked up in the warm-up prior to the Hammer’s 5-3 victory over Hertha Berlin last Wednesday.

Over the weekend the Manuel Pellegrini confirmed what he called a small injury and an MRI scan saying he depends on what happens with him during the coming week. adding “with Lukasz it depends how he works on Tuesday and Wednesday.”

Claret and Hugh understand that the keeper did not train today with the rest of the first team and there are now serious concerns he will not recover in time for Saturday’s lunchtime kick-off.

The Polish keeper is likely to face a late fitness test but the likelihood is that Roberto will start in-between the sticks at the London Stadium in four days time against the Premier League champions.

Sky bet probably got good odds on city go get ten… lol coyi!

I’d rather have Fab on one leg than Roberto on two

  • Lanzini says:

I think this will affect how we line up against City.
I don’t think we will play with the 4 attacking midfielders. So one of them will drop out. With Noble a doubt too we could have Snodgrass in midfield. I think this will only allow City to round around him at ease.
I would prefer to take the game to them with Antonio replacing Fornals.

As painful as it will be, we must not take any chances with our HOTY. If Roberto has to play the first game of the season or even the first 2 or 3, I would rather that than Fabianski play, rip his groin and be out for 3-4 months.

Roberto against City will be interesting, we need him to have a Worldy 😀

Every keeper has a ‘mare now and then ! Roberts is in theory an excellent keeper. He may well step up.

I agree with Dom – we should take the long view – and set up in Allerdici fashion not to get massacred. If we lose 2-0 then most people will say that we expected it – and hopefully then Fabianski will be fit for teh rest of teh season and for once we can get a result at Brighton
