Failure to sign a striker will be inexcusable

|

There will always be those who want to blame the board for the lack of activity in the transfer window – that’s a given.

But the idea that the club isn’t ready to hand David Moyes around £40m – £50m in this window to get what a needs – A STRIKER IN PARTICULAR – holds no water whatsoever. The money is available. Fact! We’ve had it conformed and Ex has claimed the same.

I don’t accept for a single moment – and nor do those like Ray Stewart and Terry Westley both of whom know him well – that David Moyes  would have agreed a deal in order to become a board puppet – that’s insulting,

The money is available but he has yet to land on the player he believes will make the difference he needs. He has two problems:

  • There are few quality strikers around who will be prepared to sit on the bench all the while Mickey is fit and
  • the only striker of any significance who has moved thus far is Danny Ings – quite simply they are not around

I’ve listened to the reasons the manager has given – that he will only sign players who improve the squad and that there’a a lack of availability. We can only make judgements on what he says so spare us the “throwing him under a bus “stuff.

Surely any football manager in the world, given the circumstances surrounding his only striker, will ensure that he has at least one other at the club! SURELY.

As a member of the CandH FB group pointed out, we have had 18 months to get the most obvious problem ever sorted out…that we are still waiting a fortnight before the window closes just isn’t good enough.

A very senior source told me at the end of the season that Mickey is now probably a 20 game a season player at best given those hamstrings and that the club HAD to bring in a striker.

David Moyes said after Sunday’s victory at Newcastle that he didn’t think the fans were frustrated there had been no signings – no that’s right David, not frustrated, panic stricken!

Frankly, despite all his “I won’t buy for the sake of it” talk should he not get a striker it will be inexcusable – it’s his job to insist that he gets what he needs and the money is there.

Why does the name Jordan Hugill keep coming into my mind?!

Could not agree more with you.. Same goes for a Centre Back, having lost one and another is now injury prone. We in reality need two. Cover at left back is weak in that one is getting old and works his guts out and is likely to suffer more injuries now. The other two are subject to injury themselves.

David Moyes seems determined not to rely on young Players like Conor Coventry. So we need Players to cover the gap. Jesse Linguard is gone, so we need a Good replacement. We are leaking and must plug the holes.

We need a striker bad. Unless we plan on using Bowen as a backup striker, but then we need a winger bad, as an injury to Antonio would see Yarmolenko (who is injury prone himself) in the lineup. Maybe he sees Oko-Flex as providing backup on the wing. I’m all for using youth, but it seems to me you don’t want to rely on a young player, you want to be in control of when you introduce them.

A striker and a centre back seem the absolute minimum.

Brilliant post, no punches withheld, is Moyes looking for the unattainable, totally agree with not spending for the sake of it, but surely there are some players David rates,

Totally agree. Have become totally dispirited with Moyes’ utterances on transfers. Clearly he does not read this website, otherwise he would know the sheer frustration of supporters, regardless of whether they are GSB in or out. We not only have the prospect of Antonio playing for Jamaica but also of losing the likes of Benrahma to the Africa Cup of Nations. We simply have to sign a striker: surely someone like Sima would be ideal. Kevin Nolan and Stuart Pearce aren’t shrinking violets so hopefully they are bending the manager’s ear. Simply cannot understand Moyes’ stance on this.

I read a bit by ex claiming Moyes wanted Abraham but the board wouldn’t back him due to finances . Moyes will be blamed ! The board need to step up now . It really isn’t good enough .

    • Moyes spoke about it in a presser and said £40m was too expensive for him. If u were to read the piece we did last night no club betond MU MC and Cjelsea have spent more than £75m. The club as £45 m to spend according to Ex so it’s actually down to Moyes

Sounds like West Ham are about to sign a striker….?

  • West Ham Fan No 32 says:

Moyes is a ditherer in the market. His values might be laudable and avoid expensive mistakes but he loses players that would allow him to break barriers, it’s why imho he hasn’t won anything his whole career, he is a great manager but in the transfer market he is bang average. Coufal, Soucek and Bowen are very good and his strike rate with them is great but across his career his record is not so impressive more than 50% of his transfers haven’t worked out. I saw a post many years ago that looked at all his transfers for Everton and many of which were failures. The money you pay is televant only upto a point, if you are sure the player will improve the squad, pay the money.
