Picture from the 60s from behind the South Bank and local character ‘Monty’ looks like he’s in trouble.
Sadly we can’t quite remember what the old boy had been up to on this occasion but Monty did like the odd bevvie or two and anything was possible when he got lively.
So named because he dressed like the war hero General Montgomery, he was often seen around the east end and of course the Boleyn , bugle to his lips blaring out a tune or ten.
I even have a picture of him with my Grandad down Rathbone Market from around the same time.
Monty was a ‘geezer’ and a lovely old fella whose real name was Percy Sparks.
