We’re all kids again who can’t wait for Saturday

|

Happy HammersAm I the only one today who is feeling numb!

I’ve tried very hard to analyse my feelings and suddenly as I enter my umpteenth year as an Iron I really don’t think I can truly understand, or quite believe, what’s going on at our wonderful club.

CrowdI may have said this before and if so forgive me but the only way I can describe where I’m at right now is to say that I’m that little kid again who couldn’t wait for Saturday to come around. I’m sure I’m not alone!

Supporting the Hammers right now is more than exciting or thrilling – it feels unreal, as if we are all living in a fantasy – that’s the word fantastic!

I must have been asked what’s going on at my club half a dozen times over the weekend but how do you answer, how has this become possible?

Yes, the manager is turning out to be the classiest act on and off the pitch since John Lyall, remarkably the board got every player they and the new boss  wanted in the transfer window!

Gold celebratesDimi Payet, unbelievably, has escaped the attentions of every top club, Lanzini has been an amazing discovery and with the depth of squad we now have, there’s a seriously competitive edge on every player to get in and stay in.

But it’s more than that – there’s an indefinable something within our club we’ve never had before – heart, belief, passion a serious belief among many that at last …at long last – we’ve have arrived or are about to.

Even the pessimists – who have been let down far too many times by so many false dawns – are believing but the most brilliant thing of all for me is that our incredible fan base is reunited. The divisions are gone and so have the memories of bitter arguments over the last couple of years.

That wonderful east end humour is back and it’s everywhere!

We have all regained our hope, there’s a serious belief that what we are seeing is sustainable and that it will get better and better – the footballing ‘Gods’ are smiling on the last ever Boleyn season. And that’s exactly as it should be.

The board, manager, players, scouts, and those responsible for making key decisions about who stays and goes seem to all be as one.

We are a a club seriously on the up ….and although it doesn’t feel quite real….IT IS. Treasure this time. I can remember nothing like it —and I go way back 🙂

You are not alone. I have supported the Hammers for many years and this is the most exciting times with entertaining football achieving fantastic results..
It’s well deserved as we have directors who have so much passion for the club and prepared to spend. We have Karen Brady to keep an eye on finances. We have a manager who has great passion for the club and wants his fans to go home happy. I’ve always wondered why we have had many injuries but it seems we have a very good medical staff. We have the best squad of players I’ve ever known. The dead wood have gone . UP THE HAMMERS !!

I’m sure I’ve said it before, but I haven’t felt like this for a very long time – we had four years of Allardyce thinking that winning was all that was needed to keep us happy, a year of Avram Grant before that with virtually nothing (beyond the fleeting presence of Demba Ba) to enjoy at that, two unfortunate years of Zola with unfulfilled promise, and treading water with Curbs (the Great Escape notwithstanding). It’s been a really long time since I’ve looked forward to match day this much.

Just like to say remember this moment and this feeling when we lose a game we thought we should win, or when we hit a lean spell, as we surely will at some point, then you won’t lose it.

I love this article. I feel the same – even though I am not an East Ender. 🙂

The lean spell happened against Leicester and Bournemouth now it’s full speed a head
Know how you feel Hugh, sat with 4 Chelski fans listening to the game and never before or through the game did I think we would not get 3 points,
I will only feel down if we finish any where but top,but only for a short time if we get a top 4 spot,
We have in my opinion a better squad then Arsenal,Chelski,on par with Man U and nearly as good as Man City, the rest don’t get anywhere near us,
Can’t wait for the next game
