west_hams_sofiane_feghouli_celebrates_scoring_their_third_goal_317515West Ham Midfielder Sofiane Feghouli was a surprise omission as Algeria named their 23-man squad on Saturday for the African Nations Cup finals in Gabon. Algeria are among the pre-tournament favourites but the 27 year old will play no part if it.

Feghouli has featured in just seven Premier league games for the Hammers this season and been the subject of speculation over a move back to France. The choices by coach George Leekens comes after just one match in charge, he was appointed only last month after Algeria’s poor start to the 2018 World Cup qualification campaign.

Algeria open their tournament against Zimbabwe in Franceville on Jan. 15 and also meet Tunisia and Senegal in Group B.

The 2017 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) runs from 14th January through 5th February but Andre Ayew and Cheik Kouyate are due to join their training camps today.

Feghouli looks alright, I’d rather have him stay back than Ayew….. Kouyate is going to e a big loss for us though, both him and Antonio are my hammers of the season so far.!
