Fernandes slipping away from Irons

|

West Ham look to have missed out to Spurs in the chase for Benfica midfielder Gedson Fernandes.

The Irons had been reported by Sky Sports News as having come close to sealing an 18 month loan deal for the 21 year old but with historical links to his agent George Mendez, it seems that Jose Mourinho has won out in a  move for the midfielder.

David Moyes had claimed the player was one for the future when discussing the Hammers interest and several reports claim his is similar to what we already have in the likes of Fornals, Lanzini and Anderson.

However, it will be a disappointment to many that Spurs of all club appear to have succeeded in grabbing a player who, whilst he may not have made an immediate impact on the team, was certainly one who could have added quality.

The Guardian report that the Spurs manager – with a man down in midfield in Moussa Sissoko – is determined to strengthen and that Fernandes is his chosen option.

And a second source at Spurs told ClaretandHugh the deal was likely to go through later this week.

So, where are the signings Dave? Next level is not championship next year.

Cant help themselves can they. Heres a little story…. I went out and bought a nice Ferarri once. I soon realised it used a lot of petrol the insurance was high and so was the maintenance, I couldn’t afford the parts. I couldn’t afford to run that Ferarri so I sold it and bought a Ford Mondeo.

If you can’t afford to run this club properly and buy the parts you need to make it run then please sell it.

      #I’ve never owned a Ferarri…. just saying.

Great article on Hammer news as to why Moyes has already got it wrong at West Ham. I don’t necessarily agree with all the 7 points but the majority I do. We are in a lot of trouble and this is not the person to get us out of it. We will end up with players already deemed not good enough for the PL this window, if we end up with any at all, not a lot to smile about especially the teams we have coming up.

Ha ha that’s a great analogy 😁🤔 Yes I agree it’s time to look at a long term fix and sell up. I can’t believe we one of best support in England and is pretty large outside of it but we spend like it’s 2000 not 2020.

Honestly I have had enough of all the speculation, window after window, and we end up with another botched loan deal. Fernandes not “slipping away” but lost to the spuds.Good grief.

  • Ludo’s Leggings says:

So, a kid we’d never heard of a fortnight ago decides to join the Spuds because they’ve offered him more money and have a Portuguese manager. We have Conor Coventry leading our table-topping U23 side in much the same mould. Let Levy spend his cash – his record isn’t very good anyway – £20m for Vincent Janssen, anyone?

  • simon says:

Par for the course really, we’ve been here a million times. However, no-one knows if this kid is really any good, and even if he is he’s likely to be one for the future as opposed to someone who can make an immediate impact, which is what we need.i’m not too fussed if we don’t get him, we need to somehow get in a top quality keeper as a priority. Martin is a lovely lad but a poor keeper, as evidenced by his career so far. Without someone genuinely good between the sticks we’ll be staring relegation in the face.

  • The Honest Friend says:

If he does finally end up with them, I hope he gets stuck on the bench.

    That is all.

  • Pop Robson says:

Once again we’re getting bent out of shape that we’re not getting a player that we dont actually need. Another player in the mould of Fornails, Lanzini and Anderson would be next to useless in a side that doesn’t battle.
How about a CDM with a touch of pace or maybe a RB or even a LB!?!?!

  • Billy says:

Not needed, red herring, if we don’t buy a quality keeper who could be our number 1 for many years, then we are heading for the championship, Moyes is the dinosaur we all expected, working for two other dinosaurs

  • Benny the Oz says:

We need Sander Berge. He will be great in our midfield although I expect Reo Cocker to come out of retirement at this rate.

  • mark wiggins says:

How about anyone who is better than Joe Allen we need pace in midfield hopefully someone who is actually with their money . More than the price of a pint and a few packets of crisps. We need a keeper like now & RB & box to box midfielder with pace or we really are in trouble. Plus Moyes has no forward thinking and will go along with cheap or old players. He is too much of a yes man I hope he saves us but not one for the long term IMO

  • The Cat says:

If someone can name buyers who are willing to buy West Ham United and have Millions to inject into this club, I haven’t heard of them. It is possible that I’m not up to speed on developments?
It’s like trying to sell a house that no one is interested in….. What’s the solution? Because I’m fed up of hearing stuff that doesn’t make any sense!

  • simon says:

We need someone with pace and energy in midfield and a quality keeper. If we don’t get them then we will soon be looking like relegation material. Our second half of the season fixtures are about the toughest out there. Things really aren’t looking good and we must act.

  • Saul says:

What happened with the Neil Etheridge interest? I thought he was a fantastic keeper for Cardiff last year.

    Nathaniel Clyne at right back?

Joe Powell in central midfield? Sander Berge?

    None of these are bank-breakers

Surely we need to act now rather than dally until the end of the window and then panic buy another Hugill?
