Report: Hammers miss out on striker

|

West Ham appear to have lost out in the race for Inter Milan striker Gabigol.

The Irons have reportedly been regularly scouring the striker currently on loan at Brazilian outfit Flamengo where he has been scoring goals regularly.

The Hammers last took a look at him in the Club championship clash against Liverpool and have since reportedly offered to take the player on loan with an offer to buy permanently later at around £20 million.

But that’s of no use to Inter who are keen to sell now in order t move in on their own targets and it no seems more likely that they are likely to do a deal with Flamengo who have an offer on the table.

According to Italian outlet FcInterNews.it, West Ham have been in touch with a proposal for Gabigol, but it has not pleased Inter.

Inter have rejected the proposal as they want to sell Gabigol outright and are not keen on another loan with potentially no sale at the end of it.

However, these things have a habit of dragging on in the winter market and it’s possible the Hammers will come back with an alternative offer.

Most of the winter business gets done close to the deadline and after scouting the player for so long it would be surprising were the Irons to pull out entirely at this stage.

Sorry but this is typical of the past, Mickey Mouse board making Mickey Mouse offers. Honesty would be a better policy, an admittance that they either can’t or won’t buy top targets, admit they’ve taken us as far as they can and make serious offers for p!sure they want. There’s no real shame in being a Burnley, Sheffield Utd, Bournmouth or Southampton if that’s the level we can compete with but the on going sagas of offering championship money for premiership p!Ayers under Sullivan’s guidance is boring tedious and embarresing. Either sel! to a more ambitious and financially capable owner of find an identity and stick with it and if that identity is one of yearly underdogs with a bit of fight then fine, just a shame they got all above themselves and sold out home and put us in an oversized library

To be honest this makes total sense. Why buy an untested player for £20 when there’s a chance that we could get relegated and end up with a Payet-type player who either will refuse to play in the championship or be sold at a loss. If we don’t get relegated, why spend £20 on a player who is totally new to the Premier League and will likely take time to settle? We need someone who can hit the ground running. We’re in big trouble right now. Lose to Everton and next up it’s Leicester, Liverpool and Man City. Problem at this time of the year is that there aren’t many top strikers out there who aren’t gonna cost the Earth and who are gonna want to come to a team who could be relegated. The board aren’t idiots, they’re gonna do what’s best for the club long-term and that’s what they’re doing here

So what´s you answer don´t buy a striker then? ..we desperately need one!!….. All strikers are gambles but 20mill in todays terms isn´t a lot!!…, if he´d been in Europe and had his record of goals he´d be a €200m player so!!….Also if we try to buy say a championship player you´re not gonna get much change out of 20mil for them plus who´s to say they´ll cut it in the Premier league!!

Recruitment is all a gamble i´m afraid..!… yes if he was 40m+ then i would have to think abut it but 20 mill …you don´t get much for that these days!!

The problem as i see it is the board don’t have the money to take the gamble. Why can’t we bring in Scully from the U23’s, put him on the bench, give him a run out with 15/20 minutes left in a few games and see how he does? Look at other teams who are playing 18/19 year old’s who are actually scoring. If it’s deemed he’s not ready after that then gamble with an unknown.

Another issue is a £20m striker now means £20 less to spend in the summer when there are much better alternatives available. I get your point that £20m isn’t a lot these days but we’re not a wealthy enough club to gamble on someone who has scored goals in the lesser lights of the Brazilian League but was pretty useless for Inter, hence their desire to get rid. Surely even someone like Lorente would be a better option for 6 months on a free or even loan Hernandez back (that was a joke(!))?

100% agree with the above post until these terrible owners sell up nothing will change everyone can see we now need a number 1 goalkeeper to play on Saturday not a average back up we need a box to box strong midfielder and forward and a right back that’s what happens when you leave the squad so small when not replacing players who leave saving massively in wages,I really hope thousands turn out for the protest against the board enough is enough

This is one of the issues with DS doing transfers , they want a sale and we Ofer a loan. Nowhere near what they want than we will hear we tried but couldn’t get it done . To be honest I don’t even know if Barbosa is any good but I can see the same happening with other targets.

  • #boardout says:

So hugill was worth 9 million but this guy isn’t worth the risk at 20 million? Same crap every transfer window with this board. We tried to sign Fernandes, we tried to sign gabigol, we tried to sign sander berge, but all we will end up with is joe Allen. They’ve Sucked the life out of this football club with there lies and false promises. BOARD OUT!!!!

  • Gary mayo says:

Seems we are now back to the Sullivan transfer negotiation days, where he identifies a target, gets the fans hopes up, offers the selling club a figure we’ll short of the valuation, only for us to lose out to another more ambitious club. His negotiating skills are on par if not worse than Teresa May’s and is out of touch with the modern transfer market. If dipping into his billion pound bank account hurts, then sell up……..constant year on year investment is required if you wanted be a top six side. At the moment we are just a bottom six side.
