First transfer completed | The deal that challenges the ‘West Ham chaos’ narrative at London Stadium

From the claims made about West Ham’s lack of senior executives, the picture painted is of a Claret and Blue ship adrift at sea, rudderless without a sense of direction as the new regime scrabbles to fill the void left by the departing Chair and vice Chair.

Anecdotally, agents are reported as not knowing who to contact about transfer bids for players within West Ham’s relegated squad.

Yet behind the scenes it would seem that the decision-making processes at the club are alive and well… With the first transfer deal completed and one player now moved on, despite appearances and reports to the contrary.

West Ham have completed the transfer of goalkeeper Hegyi to Sparta Prague

As their first transfer is announced – courtesy of whufc.com– evidently West Ham’s recruitment department is anything but dead in the water:

“West Ham United can confirm Hungarian goalkeeper Krisztián Hegyi has joined Sparta Prague on a permanent transfer.

The 23-year-old Hegyi departs after seven years with the Hammers, during which he made over 90 appearances for the Club’s U21 and U18 teams.”

So whilst it may suit West Ham’s board to give the appearance of a football club without senior decision makers in place, clearly the club are ready, willing and able to sign off on transfers this summer – as the sale of Hegyi demonstrates.

More than likely it suits the board to ‘play possum’ (to use an antiquated phrase) whilst the reorganisation of the football club takes place behind the scenes away from media attention. Which in itself is quite a refreshing way to do business.

From the old Bobby Moore Upper to the Billy Bonds' stand these days - sometimes- have to admit I have not renewed my season ticket... I've been watching since '03 and a supporter since about 1970..
Favourite player - Dean Ashton: Still watch YouTube repeats of the Cup Final of 2006 hoping in vain that Shaka Hislop grows six inches and stops Steven Gerrard's injury time equaliser. Can tell I'm getting old knowing I saw both Mark Noble's debut and his last game at West Ham.
Pulling on a Claret and Blue replica shirt still makes me feel the same butterflies as when I was seven years old. Magic.

No mention of a price yet. Is this a way of moving money from one DK club to another?

I will assume that the lack of mention of who owns Sparta Prague was to avoid “muddying the waters” of a questionably positive spin. I think everyone knows that the rebuilding of West Ham will not begin in earnest until a DoF is appointed and Nuno accepts he is not in charge.

Modern practice or not, I’m not very comfortable with what was once known as a football manager not being in charge.

We’ve also taken up the option on Keiber Lamadrid. So definitely someone is doing something in the background COYI

Was he sold or did he go as a freebie?
Let’s hope other negotiations move in equally quick time.
Whu do have a history of eleventh hour finalisations.
Or even players left standing at the airport.

Doesn’t take much work to transfer a youngster to a club owned by Kretinsky. 🤷🏻‍♂️

  • Morty says:

I wonder if this will lead to a relationship with Sparta Prague with the exchange of young players becoming the norm
