Football season set to carry on despite likely lockdown

|

The Premier League season looks likely to continue despite the Prime Minister being all set to announce a new nationwide lockdown tonight.

Should – as is usually the case – Boris Johnson take the same line as his Scottish ‘counterpart’ Nicola Sturgeon then elite sport will go on unlike  the first lockdown back in March when all sport was closed down.

That will be greeted with some relief  by the fans  who – despite our own anxieties as the new  coronavirus strain surges- will at least have some relief from the boredom which goes with being indoors nearly 24/7.

Professional sport in Scotland was given the go-ahead to carry on regardless this afternoon by First Minister Nicola Sturgeon who ordered a March-style full lockdown.

However, Scottish football clubs and their rugby counterparts have been told they can continue to train and play as normal.

The Scottish Government has released an exemption list, which states “those involved in professional sports, for training, coaching or competing in an event” are among those allowed to leave their homes.

Johnson will address the nation at 8pm.
