The FIFA World Cup 2026 has a long list of managerial casualties despite the competition only now just heading towards the quarter final stage.
The competition has, so far , accounted for: Sabri Lamouchi (Tunisia), Miroslav Koubek (Czechia), Former West Ham assistant Steve Clarke (Scotland), Hong Myung-bo (South Korea), Marcelo Bielsa (Uruguay), Sebastián Beccacece (Ecuador), Ronald Koeman (Netherlands, Julian Nagelsmann (Germany), Carlos Queiroz (Ghana) and latest casualty Roberto Martinez (Portugal).
The fall-out is far reaching with several of those pretty esteemed, experienced managers unlikely to climb to the pinnacle of their careers with further international roles. All the relevant national sides will need new managers in place for qualifiers next year.

Pinnacle of Moyes’ managerial career- so far….
It seems as though the bookies have already made up their mids who will be the next Scotland boss. As thescotsman.com claims, somewhat surprisingly, in installing West Ham’s former boss as their 2-1 favourite:
“David Moyes: Favourite
Could the Everton manager really turn his back on the English Premier League in order to take over at Scotland? He’s the leading favourite for the job and, after his near 30-year managerial career, the 63-year-old may just feel the time in right.”
Would Moyes quit his Everton role? Don’t bank against it as the Scot surely has one last hurrah in him at 63 years old and it is perhaps the role he was always destined to fill.
No transfers, no budget, no dithering and no eye-watering losses in the marketplace : Scotland and Moyes looks like a match made in heaven.
All managers make mistakes in the transfer market Martin, but by and large I think Moyes did ok for us. Remember a few would have been “gifts” from Sully 😊⚒️⚒️
