West Ham defender Ryan Fredericks could require surgery for ligament damage in his shoulder.
Yesterday’s medical scan showed the injury is much worst than originally thought and as has a very high possibility that surgery is required. The club will seek a second opinion by sending the right back to a medical expert for their view before surgery is booked in.
The 27-year-old fell awkwardly on his shoulder at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night and was substituted on 58 minutes coming off cradling his shoulder and arm.
Post-match David Moyes said early indications were that Fredericks AC joint had popped out but they hoped his injury would not be serious. The scan has put pay to that early diagnosis suggesting the player will be out for months rather than weeks.
The club released a statement saying “West Ham United can confirm that Ryan Fredericks is undergoing further assessment on the shoulder injury he sustained at Manchester City on Wednesday night.
The 27-year-old defender damaged ligaments in his right shoulder following a challenge with City midfielder Rodri which forced him off early in the second half.
Fredericks is now awaiting further consultation with specialists to decide on the appropriate course of treatment, and the Club will keep supporters updated on his progress.”
David Moyes will speak to the press around 1.30 pm in advance of the Hammers Premier League against Liverpool at Anfield on Monday night.
Picking up on Johnthehammer’s point, I wonder how much a player’s proneness to injury figures in our transfer policy. It surely has now to be a foremost consideration. The club has a disastrous history in this regard. Truly appalling.
Unbelievable!!Sorry for him of course and it was an unavoidable collision but we do seem to have been fated with having a huge amount of fragile and injury prone athletes. On the plus side we could still have Andy Carroll who is out again with another “mystery” ailment.Surprise!!
Wishing Fredericks a good and strong recovery.
We will however be ok. Contrary to some ill informed opinions, Zab is a more positive option, especially in defence … and is superb going forward. The team plays better with Zab on the pitch.
Again, only a total team effort will get us the results, and out of the death zone.
Coyi. God bless Fredericks and God bless West Ham.
I wish him well but it may be a chance to see more of Johnson and/or Ngakia as back-up to Zabba. Injury to Cresswell would be more of a worry…
A bad end to a miserable season for Freddericks. But i wish him a speedy recovery and a great next season. COME ON YOU IRONS
